Some of us drive on the left, some on the right. Does that carry over to how you pass somebody when walking?

Say you're walking on a path, pavement or trail with only room for one person going either way. Do you pass them left shoulder to left shoulder or right shoulder to right shoulder?

lost among the words
I pass on whatever side has the most room that I can get to without losing stride, so I can't answer the poll as stated.

When I encounter others while walking, I shove them out of the way. And I always say, "Excuse me," afterward so as not to seem rude.

I turn my body when I pass in a narrow space. I'm sad to see you didn't give any options of "butt to left" or "face to right"...

Also, I thought this was going to be a question about political leanings.

This is going to sound odd..

So we drive on the left over here. Maybe tend to walk that way too. I do. Mostly.

Except on the tube. You stand on the right to let people pass. People tend to walk on the right too, on the stairs etc. It's kind of the exception that proves the rule? I was thinking about it last time I went to my writers' group in London.

The other day I was walking into my local shopping centre, through a glass sliding door. I was coming from an angle and so it was easiest to go through the very end.

Just as I started to cross the threshold, some guy walks in front of me (coming the other way) through the far end, and instead of even pretending to swerve, he just stares at me and walks straight into me. I had to jump to the side.

So maybe there should be an option of "I walk straight into people because I have no manners and mama didn't love me." ?

When people pull that straight on stuff with me, I stop walking and look down, as I pretend to fumble for my keys or cell phone. No one's walked into me yet, they always step around.

I must say I have no idea. I'm in such a daze when I'm walking, I don't even pay any attention to which side I pass on.

When I wear my boots and leather and eye-liner,
I never have this problem.

Me too, except there was this elderly couple at the zoo and I don't think they heard me.

I'm one of those people who do that dance, unsure if I should go left, or right, or left, or right, then there's an uncomfortable moment where we both realize I'm an idiot, we fake laugh, and I stand still while they pass.

it was YOU!?

*Shoves Rob out of the way while passing, then says, "Excuse me" in a friendly, cheery tone.*
