After this episode, I'm convinced Will Schuster needs serious therapy. Okay now, really: he was going to perform "Toucha Toucha Touch Me" with Rachel, right? I know, we saw him rehearse with Emma, gotcha, nice scene. But the rationale was he was going to be Rocky. In low-cut golden undies. In front of the whole school. Acting like he was coming onto Rachel-as-Janet.
Damn, I am officially old, because that bothered me immensely. Yeah, I know, that was the whole point. Still. Even before that cast change, I found myself extremely uncomfortable watching the episode.
I love Rocky Horror, a la midnight showings with audience participation. But watching the Glee tribute made me feel all squicky.
(And now, for the Hypocrisy Award: The first time I saw RHPS I was 11. My friends and I snuck out during a sleepover and saw it in the East Village, NYC, in the early 1980s. A lot of it went right over my head. But I had fun throwing things.)
Sigh. Like I said. I'm old. Damn.
The performances were really good -- John Stamos doing "Hot Patootie" was fabulous. And it was neat seeing the role reversal of a guy being self-conscious of his looks. (But I swear, the Mom in me kept shouting, "If he's uncomfortable performing in his underwear, he shouldn't perform in his underwear!")
I'd really like to see a non-themed episode - meaning, no more Britney/Rocky Horror-type episodes, and instead get back to the songs supporting a plot-driven script. Please? Pretty please? With sugar on top?
