personally, I don't/can't write to trend. I just can't write what doesn't interest me. Of course, that leaves me with quiet little books when everyone is doing action and paranormal. And, you know, this giant vat of Rs.

Well, so far I'm on p.29 here. I reeeally wish I would have found you guys sooner. I've spent years taking rejections personally and wallowing in loathing and self-pity, when all along I could have unleashed my fury and despair on all of you! (I mean that in a good way, of course.)

:Hug2: I wish you'd found us sooner. You're an awesome fit!

I think the dichotomy many of us struggle with is...do you write for the trends and hope it's still a trend by the time you finish the ms (and then get an R saying, Sorry, but I already have a similiar work, client, etc.)

OR write what moves you, or what you think the next trend will be (and then get an R saying, Sorry, but this doesn't fit into any niche)

????????????

my 2 cents - write what you love and try very VERY hard not to think of trends. Trying to guess what the next trend will be is a crap shoot. Chasing a trend is pretty much suicide. There's a good chance by the time you are finished writing the book that adheres to a trend, the trend will be over or dying once you've polished that ms and are ready to query.

Damn, ya'll have been busy.

Hope everyone had modestly good birthdays.

Welcome new Pitizens, sorry you're here.

After a ship ride, a train, 2 planes, and a cab, I'm home. And in true Pittish fashion, there was a dead bird on our driveway to welcome us back.

Oh, and he was headless.

Yikes Mario! My head DOES hurt after watching that. As someone who's, ummm, not the most technologically saavy, I have to say I am truly frightened as to what the future holds. Geez, I don't even have a flat screen TV yet! I still have a VCR, and I'm still waiting for there to be a way to convert all my mixed casette tapes onto CD.

(((Sheadakota))) It's Labor Day! Agents deserve a day off too -- no wonder they're grumpy and handing out Rs.

I've never really been good at trends. However, I only really write about vampires, witches and werewolves, so it's pretty trendy now, no? The difference is that I can't see myself writing anything but that, even if it goes out of fashion.

(late to the party as usual)

Our VCR/ DVD combo just broke, and a new one costs 3 times the price of a DVD only player. All my kids' favorite movies are on VHS because they can take a beating. Now I have to convince my youngest to let them go.

I actually have an analog converter, for loading analog data - cassettes, Beta tapes (I have a bunch!) and vinyl records - into my Mac. One of my rainy day projects that's become more urgent over time.
Leigh, you might have gotten forwarded to the wrong link somehow. In the video it only mentions texting where it says the average teenager sends 2000+ texts a month, which indeed, seems way ridiculous. Anyway, it's all food for thought. It's just a fun video full of positively true facts they made up. :D (I found out about it because I'm courting a client who wants a video like that made. Wish me luck! In secret if you want, I know how those hellhounds are...)

OK and now for something completely pittish - this great script that I worked on for months and told everyone Hey! What a freakin' genius I am for writing a 138 page script! I was getting feedback on the query and was immediately directed to a link - Adam Sandler is developing a script with the SAME PREMISE. Just...kill me.
The only positive thing is the bi-er, beta reader who told me to give up writing came in with more level headed advice for my logline/query. Guess she had a bad day? Guess I'm working up the pecking order a little?

ETA It's up in Screenwriting SYW for anyone who wants to take the buzzsaw to it.

It's amazing how much has changed since that video was made... N0k1@ is now going down the tubes, smartphones are taking over...

I had a dream last night that I'd gotten "the call" and realized EVEN IN THE DREAM that the agent didn't rep my genre.

(((Mario)))

Fourlittlebees, I dreamed last night that I sold a book. The dream didn't seem especially real but it was so blissful that I didn't allow myself "this is only a dream" awareness. One realistic aspect is that I was trying to figure out the best way to post the announcement on AW.

Then my little girl woke me up, as she does every night, but this time I was crushed -- I could have lingered in that dream a little longer.

Morning, Pit. Back at work after a very long weekend, which is the epitome of pittishness for me atm.

Cricket, welcome back.

(((Shea))) Rs should never arrive on holidays.

(((Word))) That stinks.

(((Mario))) Ugh. Um... at least you have a hot premise?

(((4Bs))) I hate those kinds of dreams. I always end up depressed when I get up.

(((Kellion)))

Need more coffee.
