Oh, and Milo, if you're out there, I finally got a chance to read your story in Shelter of Daylight (my author copy arrived), and I enjoyed it. Very believable artist character.

Still waiting on lots of submissions, no responses at all this weekend - but a couple of good news on previously sold stories:

- "Spidersong" has been scheduled for an October 17 release at Daily Science Fiction (that's via email blast, it'll be on their web site a week later)

- Got my $500 check from the NJ Board of Education for "Good Advice" - a reprint they purchased for use in a standardized ASK (Assessment of Skills and Knowledge) test for next year. Now my fiction will be forced onto the unsuspecting 8th-graders. Mwahaha!

Looking forward to reading "Spidersong," Alex. Nice title. And congrats on the big, tasty check. I'm sure the 8th-graders will flourish with the help of your prose.

I just found out that my W1S1 story "Stir-Fried Cerebrum" will be included in the anthology So Long and Thanks for All the Brains, published by Dead Avenue Press. That's coming out in early December, it seems.

I was reading an issue of Asimov's last night and what did I see, in the section of what's to come? Something rather like this: New author Suzanne Palmer makes her Asimov's entrance with a wild tale about a team of xenobiologists whose academic voyages of exploration goes all-together differently from what (most) of them expected. I don't know about you guys, but I'm looking forward to reading that one.

Drat. I checked my mailbox today to see if the new Asimov's had come so that I could see more than just the teaser of that Palmer tale I've had my eye on, but it seems Asimov's has, like they did with the last issue, decided to send it to my old address. Apparently, when they acknowledge your change of address form, they're really saying that they find the idea of shooting your copies off to the wrong state hilarious. As such, it seems I shan't be reading the tale for some weeks yet.

@jgold: Thanks a lot! A&A sounds like a great suggestion. I've sent it out to ASIM today (not sure it's as good a fit, but hey, they are super fast). I will definitely give A&A a shot as soon as they re-open in November.

Well, it isn't fiction-related, but my application to write sports columns for The Bleacher Report was accepted tonight! It doesn't pay, but it gives me access to thousands--and maybe millions--of readers, as well as publication on several huge websites, like NHL.com, NFL.com, NBA.com, etc., and LATimes.com, SFGate.com, etc..

And writing well can earn me a featured gig as well as press credentials to sporting events and a paying gig.

I got one of them for the Memory Eater anthology - "Interesting title, I'm looking forward to reading it!" Personalised acknowledgements are pretty cool
