Finished it.

Very gripping read. I loved the descriptions and the way the circus took on a life of its own. It became the most fully realized character in the book. Some other characters were also quite interesting, like Chandresh, Mr. Barris, the sisters and Poppet and Widget. Unfortunately, the two least interesting characters, for me, were Celia and Marco. For some reason, their romance fell flat. I found myself skipping their romantic drivel to move on to other plot lines.

Also, I thought the challenge held much less impact because they never went head-to-head. The little game they played in Chandresh's flat, around the pool table, was hardly a high-stakes, life-or-death struggle. In addition, I found the denouement anti-climactic, confusing, and a cop-out.

That said, I really did enjoy the spirit of the book and some of the writing was quite lovely indeed. It was definitely worth the read.
