@Kmarshall - She isn't still there. Ms. Jote left and didn't notify her clients. The agency made no attempts at damage control with those clients. (I was one. I terminated my contract.) The agency isn't very organized right now. I strongly suggest you go elsewhere.

Brendan, I've never met Liz, and maybe she is a fantastic person. However, I have to assume you're unaware of what has happened in recent weeks and months. Calling her a "great agent" is extremely insulting to her clients -- including two of my closest friends -- whose careers were put on hold for months or longer, who were lied to that they were on sub (for months!), who were stood up for call after call after call, and who had to learn their agent quit through the grapevine, not from her. I don't know what's going on in her life, what sort of situation she's in; I have to imagine it's something quite worrisome, considering recent events. But writers should not be told this behavior is even remotely acceptable for any agent -- let alone a "great" one.

I sent a query to Objective Ent. I sent it to Ms.Jote. They said she is no longer there but that they would be interested in the full ms. Has any one heard anything recently about OE? I read in past postings that they weren't organized. Has that changed?
I asked that bc I have been through ALOT w/ half A** lit agents. I would rather have no rep then rep that is inept. So, if you guys know any thing about OE, pls let me know: )

A contract can check out legally and still be squicky on the ethics. I don't know if this is the case or not here. If you are hesitant about signing with these people, I'd suggest you not do so.

Just wanted to post up for the record that I recieved an e-mail from this agency today "respectfully asking" that I submit the book they rejected more than a year ago to their new e-pub.
I have a feeling they sent out a form e-mail to a number of their rejected queries, probably a large number of them as it was one of my early query efforts before I had edited my MS up to a decent word count or respectable looking plot.
While I am sure the e-mail is legitimate, it felt awkward to me, and I wanted to let people know. It was not from the agent I originally queried.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. I guess that's not as bad as them spamming the "rejected" list with referrals to self-publishing services and editing services, but I think they should just leave the "rejected" lists ALONE.

Objective is a good agency. In 2009, Liz sold my YA trilogy (Angelfire) to HarperCollins in a six figure deal before she left this past summer. Now Ian is handling the book series Liz sold. Rosemary Stimola handles everything of mine that isn't Angelfire-related.
Some things you need to understand about OE:
They represent mostly celebrities. That comes with its benefits and difficulties. Firstly, they have incredible contacts in the entertainment business.. music, film, television, you name it. They recently expanded their office to LA and are close with some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Secondly, they deal with editors and publishers of celebrities the same way they deal with editors and publishers of normal, uncool people like us. Interpret that how you will, but it's why Rosemary handles my YA fiction. OE is a good agency and superb at doing what they do.
Since everyone loves to jump on the hate bandwagon, please research what you're hating on before you go and do it. What Kirsten said is very true and we share the same friends who were injured, but that situation involves an agent who is no longer with OE. Ian and Jarred had no knowledge of anything that was going on. They are good guys and this is a good, specialized agency looking to break into the Children's market.

Mythica, I'm not jumping on any hate bandwagon, and my post isn't directed at anyone specifically. I received an e-mail from this agency that felt extremely unprofessional to me and posted it in this thread so that others could judge for themselves. That is what BR&B is for.
I would encourage anyone to do research before querying or signing a contract.

It is a pretty well known fact that they are NOT good guys. You're either lying, naive about the industry, or woefully uninformed about them.

As someone who has worked with OE since January 2009, I can assure you that this IS a good agency. They sold my trilogy for six figures. They know what they are doing. I have two books published with HarperCollins and a third on the way. I have the experience and knowledge to know what I'm talking about.
You must be pretty naive and woefully uninformed about etiquette and professionalism to think it's okay to enter a public forum and behave the way you do. Nice first impression on the publishing industry.

I thought I'd give them a shot and when I typed in an email address for Mr. Kleinert, it automatically came up. Curious, I did a search in my email and discovered that in 2009 I did contact them to let them know about everything I'd (apparently) read about their agency and wanted to know if they had any sort of rebuttal or comment.
I never received a reply.
Still, I think I'm going to try them because I'm familiar with several of the books on their site, including Ms. Moulton's (working at B&N helps). That and I'm running toward the end of my agent list now, so let's just call it an experiment, hmm?

Received an unsolicited email from them today. Any thoughts? And is it odd they cc'd someone else in their own agency with it? Not sure what to think of it.

If you were going to write back, I'd do it via a link on the main website rather than thwacking reply. I believe there are ways to make it look as though your email comes from somewhere it doesn't. I got the exact same email almost word for word. I was dumb enough to respond and then I got the same email sent to my 2nd pen name The guy is super aggressive and very shady. Lots of promises to make you rich and famous.
Didn't take me long to figure out he's trying to dupe authors into giving him ebook rights for his ePub company "P@perless Publishing". Traditional agents must really be struggling now that so many of us are doing well selling our own ebooks directly.

I noticed these lasts posts dates back in '07, so I'm surprised that there hasn't been any updates for this year (2012). Any who, I'm seeking information from other people who has done research on this company, OBJECTIVE ENTERTAINMENT and I have been getting MIXED REVIEWS.
As any keen writer, I sent my query letter and chapter samples to this and all publishers I can think of. After months later and tons of "NO's", I finally got a "YES" from Obj. Ent. and a request to see my full manuscript. Well it's been two weeks and advice from friends and family asking me to do research on this company, I'm starting to get the nervousness.

Was it "Ms. E. Jote" who requested your manuscript? Elizabeth Jote left OE over a year ago, with no notice to (at least) some of her authors. Have you communicated with Ms Jote during this experience, or did you hear of her some other way? If it's the latter, she's no longer with the company. If the former, that's interesting information.
You mentioned that you've been submitting your manuscript to publishers. Did you query Objective Entertainment for agency representation, or did you submit your book to their sister e-pub, Paperless Publishing? Responses will vary, depending on what you were looking for.
Regardless, you might want to read back a page or ten. As you noted, reviews are mixed. It's good to be informed.
