Edit: Do you think a term like 'downworlder' is copyrighted if it's mentioned in another book series, i.e. Mortal Instruments?

You can't copyright a word, and as far as I know, it's not trademarked, so there wouldn't be any legal issues. Whether people feel it's derivative and/or drags them out of the story is another matter. I think the term Downworlder would bother me because I've only ever read the term in the Mortal Instruments series. If it was a more commonly used term like warlock, witch, demon, etc, I wouldn't notice.

Hi, everyone!

Does AW have meet-up events or conventions? If they don't, I think that would be a wonderful idea!

8.2K! In the next session, I'm going to write until the scene is finished and then go to bed.

ETA: Actually, I'm tired, so I might go to bed soon.

Kat, I agree with Para that you should avoid terms already used in existing series. It is hard to make up new ones - but worth it for the peace of mind. Especially since the YA pub biz is very connected.
I've been on a nostalgic reading binge for the past few days. Should start actually writing again.

If I write 1K - 2K every day, I should have 15K - 22K by the time I go back to uni! Yay! :D

Finally done with homework! Unfortunately, my ease of writing last night didn't carry over to now. I do have a goal in place for 1k a night, though, so I'll need to suck it up and write. ;) Doesn't look like anyone's on so I'll word war with myself from :45 - :15
ETA: Just finished. Little over 700 words. Need another 300, though.

Hey, guys, made a TRL cover out of boredom. Not my best work, but what the hell.

That cover is really pretty :D

I am so tired now haha. It is way too early, but I have to be at school in about an hour; am lying in bed trying to pretend it's a Saturday morning. It's not working lol

Hey all. Thanks Para for the advise. I didn't think it would be copyrighted, but worth asking. I'm trying to come up with new ways of describing the creatures, etc etc. Difficult without sound too cheesy. haha.
Also trying to briefly outline my story so I won't forget different things as I have done with my other WIP.
Hmm it's so cold *shivers*

ETA: LOL at Tally's Hermione gif.

I need to go to bed, but I got started watching Once Upon a Time, and...yeah.....

Awesome right!? I really love that show and i honestly thought i would hate it.

Aah. I'm trying to say the idea without saying my whole plot haha - it is too long to type out.

Say at the beginning there was someone murdered, but the rest of the story follows their life as if nothing ever happened. And then at the end she is murdered; the beginning and the end point are the same. The story starts with the end, I suppose it would be.

Oh! And I have another (less confusing, I promise!) question for you guys. If any of you live in England and have been to America, or live in America and have been to England could you share what you thought was different about those two places?

I live in England, but my novel is half-set in America and I have totally no idea what it is like there lol

I'm from Philiadelphia PA USA, I've been over to Ireland, and London, both for a week each. Its drastically different in my opinion in aspects like food and laws (like with traffic laws in London i was shocked that if a car hits a person the driver can sue the person they hit!?!?!?! US its the opposite way around.) Clearly the scenery is different but in Philiadelphia alot of buildings and areas are rather older so it wasnt horribly different from London. Oh and Big Ben... yeah I was kind of disappointed for i thought it would be bigger... but i blame the Comcast center for ruining that experience for me (New tallest building on the eastern coast)

But yeah its different but no so much that its impossible to get around and understand stuff... Although i will say "the underground" confusing as hell... although an awesome fast way to travel.

Ok, i have a strange question to ask anyone who is on. Ok a few strange questions.

Say your in a hedge maze... do you think it is possible to stand ontop of the hedges? There pretty lush but would it would support the weight of a teenage boy around 150lb's?

Next... What do you think is more aweosme.

Background: Two teens lost in a foggy hedge maze hunted by a Minotaur. Which is a more aweosme way to kill it.

A) One teen stands in the middle of one of the maze paths as it charges, and the other jumps out with a sword and stabs it in the back as it passes.

B)One teen runs ahead and lays ontop of one of the hedges (this goes along with the previous question), the other faster teen leads the charging beast past the hidden lying down one, who jumps on its back and stabs it in the top of the head with a sword, and or jab out its eyes with arrow heads?

I think somebody was pulling your leg. If you get hit by a car in London, the driver is not going to sue you. :tongue

Really? Because i was told your only aloud to cross at designated spots and if you get hit when not crossing in that designated spot its your fault if you get hit kind of thing.

Would make sense if they lied to us though. We had to go on a scavenger hunt in the city and take pictures of things that we found. We asked one of our guides about this one cemetary, Post mans... something or other I think. He was a jerk and told us it was in the backyard of a post office... stupidly we belived him and were asking all over where we could find the right post office. We must have looked like the stupidest americans ever.
