It's possible. Love at first sight has just as "high" a success rate in marriage as does love developed over time. If you believe what real world people say, love at first sight is not only common, but very often lasting and successful.
And there's the thing. I don't believe it. Lust at first sight? Yes. Love? No. You can't possibly know someone well enough to love them as soon as you meet.
I know a couple who were married three days after meeting, and remember reading about a famous couple who were married the same day they met. Both marriages lasted unto death did they part.
And I know plenty more quickie marriages which broke up.

Sure, I'd believe Anime Otaku could be smitten with each other right away, just like anyone can be smitten right away. Their common passion even invites this. Heck I've fallen in love with cosplay girls right away. Who can deny the heart?

Quick marriages which work are the exception. What people call "love at first sight" is really interest at first sight. Many people are interested in someone at first sight, and at some point get married. The love at first sight is a post-hoc rationalization. You can't possibly love someone without knowing them. You could at most love an idea of them.

If the relationship doesn't work, then people won't call it love at first sight, even if the emotion had been exactly the same.

I will know the girl I marry by her running into me, us both crashing to the ground, me falling on top of her, my hand accidentally groping her breast, and her shoving me off, shouting "Kuwi no ecchi! Baka! Hentai!!" before running off, and my heart will go doki doki.

Also, she's actually an alien.

It's perfectly plausible. Whether you make the reader believe it is what's important, and if the consequences add up in the story. Love at first sight is especially true if the 'lovers' have similar features: Jawline, nose, wide-set or close-set eyes, big heads. People are most attracted to those who look like them. Look in your local newspaper--the engagement section (or wedding section, or take a close look at couples anywhere). You'll see how most of the couples look like brother and sister. Just bringing this little tidbit to your attention. :) Writers are good observers, after all, it's what we do.

If it's two Otakus, then it should be fine. They tend to be far more intense, and several of my friends actually started dating that way.
They're still together, five years later. Really, the only thing that would separate said couple would be an argument over manga.

Edited the thread title typo -- this is usually something your mods do whenever we happen to notice 'em. The font in that field is smaller so it's easy to overlook blips when you're typing the title.
