editing for authors ad

A publisher or agency using Google ads to solicit your novel probably isn't anyone you want to write for.

Two Books/Two Publishers

I am fortunate!

A couple of months ago, I contracted with a small publisher to publish one of my novels. We are in the editing/proofing phase at this time. Now, a different small publisher is interested in another of my novels. Would it be appropriate to contact the first publisher to:

a) Let him know of this opportunity
b) Ask if he is interested in taking a look at the manuscript.

I am not agented.

(NOTE: If this is more appropriate in another forum, please let me know).

If you're enjoying working with Publisher A, and would like to give them the opportunity to consider your second book, it is perfectly appropriate to say "I have interest from Publisher B on {your book}; I'm enjoying working with you so much that I wanted to see if you would be interested as well."

You might have to let publisher A have a look. Have you checked your contract for "right of first refusal?"

What Cyia said. Some contracts require you to allow Publisher A first look at your next work--it all depends on the language of the clause.

That said, this may be more appropriate to Ask the Editor, so I'm sending it down there.
