I missed a lot today--but so much is now absent that I think we'll just move on, shall we?
My guilty pleasure is thrillers with a twist that works. After reading a few dozen, I'm on to the killer being the cop investigating the murder, the sympathetic friend, and all the other easy ones. I'll read and reread a good one, marveling at how well it's done.
So, today we hiked at the easternmost point in the US. The trail was supposed to be easy, but it took just over three hours to do four miles. Really, a thirty-inch step up, onto a squishy tree root, pulling up my own body weight, and not one thing to hold onto for balance? Oh, sure, no problem. Not even when I was twenty and thinner.
But I did think of Caleb over and over as we marveled at this or that plant. I took lots of pictures, but don't have the cable and software to share them here yet. The pitcher plants were too cool, and the bog turf sunk like eight or ten inches under your feet.
We forgot our passports back at the house, so we didn't cross into Canada for lunch as we'd planned. Instead, the my-god-it's-2:30-let's-not-be-picky hole in the wall place was actually quite nice, even though it looked like a dump from the outside.
We felt we'd earned burgers, and enjoyed them.
I've been pecking at my WIP for fifteen minutes here and there, but I can't report much progress. It's getting longer and more detailed, but is it getting better? Not a clue.
Mr. Maryn's been doing a CLE--continuing legal education--course online, and it's pretty interesting even for us non-legal people. It's about social media and the law, and some of the examples, all purportedly real, are hilariously awful. ("The lawyer called the judge a what on his blog?")
Anyway, that's it for me today. The wine has come out and I shall enjoy it, as I always do.
