I'm just happy to have a full complement of men in here again. For a while we could have talked nail polish colors.

Maryn, in a candid, bare-nail moment

mine are not painted at the moment, though I am more likely to paint my toes than my fingers.

Oh wait, we're NOT talking about nail color....

Sassy, I think I met you at the same time I met most of you in here, mid-April, last year.

I can talk nail polish colors. Well, at least I have a story.

When my older sister was little, maybe 5, she painted my dad's fingernails bright red while he slept. He was a very heavy sleeper. When he awoke, he rushed off to work like that without even noticing, but his co-workers sure noticed!

Teens are brandishing MAC-10s and we're sneaking around to get sparklers. Oh, what a wonderful world.

We bought sparklers in Maine and gave them to our kids in Massachusetts and New York, where even sparklers are illegal.

So The Kid and I went to the small--the crummy one that's just starting its death throes--to use our Groupons. I bought a bunch of bath products in mango, tangerine, lemon, and strawberry scents. By this time tomorrow, I will be smelling like a fruit salad.

Maryn, who was assured the scents don't linger, actually

The fireworks were going off in full view out my window...where I'm sitting comfortably between 2 fans net surfing. ;)

OK Tomorrow I'm off to spend the night at my long-estranged half-sister's house. She's married, so I'll be spending time with him and most likely their biker-ish crew. That's good for a neurotic social-phobic like me. :(
Here goes nothing...

"... and her heart lay crushed in an egg shell mosaic." this is why I can't put a Janet Fitch novel down. I'm not sure where the story is going but the imagery is fantastic.

You'd better, if you know what's good for you...

Good news--I found the missing library book. I put it in the glove compartment of my car. (?) This is especially good because I priced identical replacement copies, complete with deckle edge, and they were not cheap.

Plus now I get to read it, which was the whole point.

Maryn, relieved

Well I wrote in my journal. I am meeting a friend for lunch then we are going to see "Rock of Ages". I'll let you know if it is bad in a good way or a sucky way. :)

Maryn- love the avatar.

Sassy - whose lunch date is late.

Hurray for writing in your journal--and boo for the lateness of your friend.

Maryn, who has a 'thing' about being late

Well, I survived the weekend. Surprisingly, I had a great time and learned some things about sailing :) I didn't get on with the stepbrother years ago, but he seems pleased as punch to have me this time around. Guess people mellow with age, priorities change, all that happy hippie crap.
I come home and my other favorite thread is locked. That sucks. But I have here to come in and hang, I hope.

You can always hang here, Mario. FWIW, the decision to close that thread was not entered into lightly or made by one angry person.

It's fascinating, how people do indeed change, often for the better, as age mellows them and resets their priorities. I find it especially interesting to see young women go from competitive bitches to sisterhood as the dust of the teen years settles.

Over the weekend we watched two unlikely movies, for Mr. Maryn anyway, 80s teen comedies. Anybody remember Class and Secret Admirer? Both were better than I remembered them, and filled with "Hey, that guy!" moments.

Maryn, who loves the five dollar DVD bin

Oh yeah, I bought Class from the used VHS bin years ago for a few bucks because I had a crush on Andrew McCarthy. I don't remember Secret Admirer though.

We watched Chronicle last night. It was well done but sort of a downer.

Big hair classics! Yeah, I remember staying up late checking out the new technology called cable :tongue. St. Elmo's Fire (Ally Sheedy was a dream girl), Bachelor Party, any Cannon shlock and cheapo slasher flick (axe murderers were the zombies of the time ;)).

Hi, folks...just had an email from friends in Colorado Springs, full of fire scares and hopes for rain. I will not complain about all the rain here this still-chill summer, but I may well wish a decent amount of it to get over the Cascades and water the Rockies.

Trevor, chilling
