Createspace Tax ID

My apologizes in advance if this is a duplicate thread. My searches did not reveal a match.

Anyway... what is the deal with Createspace and their requirement that an author present a Tax Identification number?

Everything that I've read points to this being a document for resident and non-resident aliens but I cannot find a reference to the necessity for someone like myself who lives in the states.

Is there some fundamental element that I'm missing here?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Respectfully,

Chuck

If you're a US citizen, acting alone, you can use your Social Security number.

Thank you Mr. Macdonald. That is what I was hoping to hear. The manner in which Createspace compels the need for a TaxID has likely been cause for confusion by many.

I tried to go back to see what the wording was regarding the Tax ID number, but since mine is already set up, I didn't see what the original wording was. If you ever have a question, try contacting CreateSpace help. They've been very responsive whenever I've contacted them.
