I grew up on Mayberry RFD and Sheriff Taylor and Opie. RIP Andy Griffith.

We have lost a great one. While people naturally recall him as Mayberry's sheriff and as Matlock, let's not forget that he gave a terrific dramatic performance in A Face in the Crowd, a 1957 film directed by Elia Kazan and co-starring Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau and Lee Remick. I saw it recently and was surprised he wasn't nominated for an Oscar. He was a man of many talents.

We watched Mayberry RFD today, as they had a marathon going. We laughed our tushes off.

I was ten or twelve years old the first time I saw him in a film called No Time for Sergeants. Goofy, corny, yet priceless.
