Well done with the last one: I expected hints would be needed, there (was planning comments about a cellist becoming a violinist).

All I have here, so far, is that little-known masterpiece (or perhaps it was a mantelpiece?): Collars by Uncivil Hawthorns. The letters fit, but unfortunately this is its only claim to accuracy ...

4. Important 20th century figure, and yet--weirdly--a recent UK poll showed that a large percentage of young people thought this person was fictional. The same poll showed that a large percentage thought Sherlock Holmes was real.

SAVROLA / WINSTON CHURCHILL

I'm just reading Michael Dobbs' "Winston's War" at the moment, and this still didn't occur to me earlier!

Well done ... I did wonder, because you hadn't posted in other threads. They let me go out, very occasionally, too ... just to buy shoes, and so on, you know ... ;)

5. The novella has been adapted twice for feature films and several times for TV.
