I read a psych study a while back on how we rank free items lower than ones we've paid for, because we essentially can't stand to see ourselves as suckers. Anyone know where I would have read that? Please rep me.

hi guys -- I just wanted to pop back in with a little more detail.

the little one had vomiting almost two weeks ago, and has never really gotten her game back since.

she's been extremely fatigued, thirsty, and had a sore throat, and some scary weight loss.

she's going for tests tomorrow and the googling i've done (ugh) shows some rare, scary possibilities and some more common / less scary possibilities (like mono).

so my fingers are crossed for mono.

she is with her dad this weekend which is terrifying me. he sucks at taking care of sick people. but! he is now dating a doctor.

an ear nose and throat doctor, but still-- hopeful.

still, i'm scared. really scared. but tomorrow the blood tests, and later next week i should know more.

and who knows-- maybe she'll just perk up this w/e.

thanks so much for the hugs and reps. it means a lot, lot lot to me. i really need you guys :)

it is very good to have a place to come in and babble about my worries.

so thank you. and bless you.

and keep up the prayers for my little gal. she is a treasure. it's awful to see her sick. :(

((((Kris)))) Fingers and kitty paws crossed for your little one. Immune systems can be sneaky little bastards sometimes.

Hah, Rosie, I'm kind of thinking we need a "this is just a side gig" tab listing all the more illustrious bits of purgie careers then. :tongue

At some point, Purgs, I'm going to have to build a website. I did it once before with wix, but it was flash, which is not so good for today's tech such as cell phones, or for a sight-impaired person's helper tech.

I'm going to check through the apprpriate threads here, but I'd like to hear what you guys use, like, dislike, etc. I already bought the clovia shaw domain, but just have a placeholder up now.

Ah, I was actually just wondering about the same thing the other day. I know there are providers who offer kind of a package deal that make integrating your blog etc. really easy. I was wondering how everyone's take on those was, too and what some good places to use are, especially if you're pretty much clueless like me. :)

Behind again, but luck to lwalker and (((kris)))

Para, YAY for the new flat!! You will love it! (I am always right about these things. HA!)

As for stuff here, the possum apocalypse seems to have died down. I'm finally getting some good work on book 3. I did an hour-long Twitter chat which was kind of fun, but--whew!--it's a lot of typing and tracking things. The host sent me his questions before hand which really helped because I could write down some of the answers, make sure they fit the length and copy and paste. That made it easier to keep up with other questions. Fun. And I picked up a bunch of new followers.

Clovia, my site is very simple, but it was also very easy. I have Blu3h0st and they have a 1 button Wordpress install. I got a bunch of lovely stock photos and I use one of their current default templates. So easy I couldn't believe I hadn't done it sooner. I pay for is the hosting and they've been very responsive (and I would have paid for the stock photos but I had a friend who had leftover numbers on a month's subscription.

If you're looking to do a lot of photos, Wordpress does have good gallery themes.

Anyway, that's what I've got.

Have a good evening! Stay cool. Or warm. Or dry.

I have a feeling that could get ugly. :tongue

Clovia, I'm clueless (as you are probably already aware). *ventures a... Wordpress?* What am I even talking about? *hits self over head :e2hammer:*

Sorry! Mr. Rosie is on his way back from SF, so I'm a little giddy excited.

Clovia, I'd recommend you start with self-hosted Wordpress. (That's dot org.) It's not particularly expensive. I'm using Blueh0st, too, and though I've been with them a month, I've had no difficulties. When I effed up something royally on a Sunday and emailed them, they fixed it within a few hours, sent me a customer service survey. I've also spoken to them online and they were helpful.

I'm a newbie at self-hosted, but so far I'm happy.

An alternative is to go with WP.com and use your domain name. You don't have as much flexibility, but if they have a template you already like, it's simpler. You'll end up paying almost the same amount as self-hosted, though, if you're like me and don't want ads, want the ability to customize the appearance, etc.

{{{Kris}}} Thinking of you - hope everything turns out okay :(
LWalker, everything crossed for you!!
Rosie, W00t for hubs coming home!

Mine came out with another gem tonight - I finally got around to telling him about yesterday's passes. His response: "So, if this one doesn't sell, are you going to quit wasting your time?"

Smack.

Becky, When I was in year *mumble* of Query Hell, Mr. Lily once said to me, "Maybe you're not good enough to get published."
.
.
.
.
.
.
About 18 months later, The Agent sold FoH. After I squee'd and Mr. Lily congratulated me, I reminded him of that conversation. I hold few grudges (the girdle remark is one), but I reminded him of that conversation and said, "Honey? I. Told. You. So." He said he was glad he'd been wrong.

Becky, one day you'll be able to say those words to Mr. Becky. They will feel Very Good.

*sigh* I'm going to log off in a few. I'm watching Wipeout with the guys, then I'll finish a Vincent Price costume horror movie and knit a bit. I'll be back online sometime late morning, after the BOOK procedure. Wish me luck, gang.
