Good morning Purgies!

Blond - you can do it!

Ink - good luck on the revs.

Dys - oh no! But glad to hear the cut wasn't serious. However, the zombie virus takes a few days to incubate, so you're not out of the woods yet. Fingers crossed for you.

memorized a whole new set of wild edibles last night. Sadly a lot of them I memorized don't grow in this area but it's always good to know.

Morning all.

Dys- I am def glad your cut wasn't too bad. I would sanitize the hell out of it though.

Just making a general observation- It seems like those of us who have been trying to get an agent, and haven't landed one are probably S.O.L. until the publishing industry calms down. I think the last purgy to land an agent was Snappy and that was last year. But- I do find it ironic that my vampire book (the one I was told by multiple agents was unsellable) I got a publisher for. On one hand, I could pump myself up to say that wow, I did something an agent couldn't. On the other, it probably means that because I'm working through an extremely small publisher, the agents didn't feel the publisher was worth their time. I'm kind of having a hard time rectifying this.

What I have garnered is that traditional publishing looks down on people who work with small presses or e-pub. That is until one takes off like gangbusters.

I think traditional publishing needs to reevaluate their thinking- and I think this means agents too. Some agents are trying- but only by making their own e-pubs. And now the market seems saturated. I dunno. It's just a mess.

But I do think it sucks that there are a lot of industry people who look down on you if you aren't repped by an agent or published by a big publisher.

All of this has come down to my current state of FSD's. I don't know whether to submit my exorcism book out there to small presses and e-pubs, or just to let it sit in a box and rot.

Morning, purgs! Made up for yesterday's Coffee Fiasco by ordering a venti iced latte on the way in to work this morning. Apparently I had no idea how huge a venti is.

Seriously, there's enough caffeine at my desk right now to freak out a herd o' three-toed sloths. I am only 1/3 of the way through and already starey-eyed and inappropriately intense.

Lwalker, I have a bucket of ground Cullen on hand: dip in wherever you need some. So exciting!

{{{{Kris}}}}} Thinking good, healthy thoughts for your little girl.

Para, yay!!! on new flathood. Well-flapped, lady. :D

Wow, LW, that is a good thing! I can definitely understand why you feel like yarping.

Can I just say how much I love this word?

I love this word.

Becky, uh.... yeah. Being generally nonviolent when it comes to people I know I will have to live with later on, I probably wouldn't smack him, but I believe Mr. Sunna would have an uncomfortable few weeks ahead of him.

:box: Maybe you should stop having sex with him because, you know, without procreation it's just a waste of time.

This too.

Also: I think everyone here is like me in that yes, getting a book deal would be or is awesome, but you write because it’s who you are. I do it first and foremost because I love it. It lights up something in me that nothing else does, and I am not as happy when I abandon it.

So no matter what the business does or says, the craft is part of you. You are never “wasting your time.”

Well said. :)

{{{Phoenix and puppy}}} May he pass with flying-- er, you know what? Maybe not.

May he pass soon. I hope he's okay.

Please, poopy. If you come out, we'll be your best friend.

I want Phoenix's dog to pass cob, but I am NOT going to promise to be a poopy's best friend. Unless it was Mr. Hankey.

And now I have Mr. Hanky the Christmas Poo stuck in my head for the rest of the day.

Yet another one of those ridiculously American references that goes right over my head. :tongue

Then again, I might be better off this way...

And thanks guys. I am now wearing the biggest glaringly neon-blue bandaid we had. ;)

Good thoughts for Kris' little one as well. :Hug2:

Don't worry. I have no clue what it means either.
Tut-tut, even I know that one, and I'm woefully behind on my cultural touchstones. It's from "South Park."

Good to hear the corn cob issue is resolved. Whew! Now thinking good-health thoughts toward Kris's little one, Dys's wrist, and Lily's big ones. (Ha-ha, could not resist.)

So the little teensy ants returned last evening, in great number. I only spotted them because I chided Mr. Maryn for spilling ground coffee. It wasn't coffee. Who doesn't love vacuuming insects up from food preparation areas? Ugh.

At least tonight we're not eating at home, so maybe I can get the area the ants seem to like utterly spotless and keep it that way.

Maryn, kidding herself

Maryn - Have you tried scattering cinnamon around? It supposed screws up their scent receptors. I've also heard baking soda. *shrug*

Sammy, please don't let your manuscript sit around and rot. If i were you, i'd query everyone, agents and pubs. Make a list of the ones you think would be a good fit and query them all at once. Wait 3 months for responses and then re-evaluate what to do. I think it's great you went ahead with your vampire book because it fits in that category where we know there are still readers looking for new vampire books, but it is outside of the major trends right now. I'm so happy to see alternatives.

Morning, all. I'm not going to be around for the next few days. I'm going to my first writing retreat in years. Perhaps we'll actually get something done.

Go, Inkie. You can do eet.

Blond, you probably can't skip out of the rehearsal, but I'd do what kellion said about the singing. Unless you want to do it.

Lily, Kris and Little Kris, thinking about you.

Dys, I'm glad you're okay. Don't use disinfectant, though. Use something like Polysporin under the bandage. It doesn't destroy tissue.

Woot! And did anyone else realize we've had a Corn Man on this thread, and now a Corn Dog? Coincidence? I think not.

Yay! Give me a B! Give me an M! :e2cheer:
LOL!

Vamp dust, Kimmi!

Sammy, what Amarie said. "When you argue with reality you lose, but only 100% of the time." (Byr0n Katie quote) The state of flux makes it scary, frustrating, and all kinds of crazy-making, but you can either wait until it's less crazy, which might be a decade or more, or do the best you can in an imperfect situation. Purgies are survivors. Go get 'em.

ETA: Clovia, check out Jan3 Fr1edman's blog today. It's about the pros and cons of self-hosted versus the free version of Wordpress. The argument that persuaded me to do the former is what the big bloggers say; not that I have illusions about joining their ranks, but the principle made sense. They don't believe you should build your business in a place that other people own. It makes you too vulnerable to changes in policy and whim.

(((Dys))) And ouch!

Phoenix, woohoo!

Maryn, eek! I hate hate hate ants in the kitchen. I think Tas' advice works.

Sammy, I'd third what Amarie said, but then I'd be a hypocrite given how many novels I've trunked. So I'll just make discreet little gestures toward her post.

I have one little piece of information I need to stick into these revisions before I forget, then first pass will be done. :)
