Oh, he'd need a little holiday, especially one with a work out program The vet has put him on diet. He's a really big cat (for a normal house cat), but let's face it, nonetheless 9,2 kg is too much, so he has to lose weight. Anyone who ever tried a diet with their pets.... knows what I'm talking about...

He's gorgeous!

I have a 17-pounder, myself. He's diabetic, and, sadly, the vet has said it's too late to diet. Let him enjoy what we wants as long as he's with us.

Hug your Spocky for me.

We say our one cat isn't fat, she's just big boned.

If you only have the one cat, it will be easier. Either gradually reduce the amount of food each day, or there are 'diet' cat foods. They can have the same volume of food they are used to, but it has fewer calories.

@heyjude: sorry to hear that. Hug your cat as well!

@MaryMumsy: yep, we've tried diet food, but he hates it We have put him on half rations now, and no 'lil'bits' inbetween. We'll check out food without fiber soon.

Spock is gorgeous. Putting a cat on a diet takes will power. It may help to spend time with him getting him running around playing, more toys and climbing trees and things that encourage Midnight Crazies may help.

Ari is twelve. His Home Day was July 6, 2000 - he was six weeks old and about 3/4 fur. He's 15lb but not fat, he's got legs like a panther - thick and muscled - and while his skin hangs pretty loose like he's a fat cat or ex-fat cat, he lays completely flat and when I pet him, he's got a spine and I can feel ribs without them being bony-too-thin.

He's just a well muscled big cat. I wouldn't be surprised if Spock would be closer to fit rather than fat if he dropped two pounds and put on muscle.

Ari turned into a Rocket Kitten on day two. He's never stopped. He treats my bed as a trampoline. He'll yell and jump up on it and chase his tail jumping up to swat at his tail, spin in the air and land to do it again. I wish I could get a video of the Flying Tail Chase thing he does. When he does that I get out the feather wand and get him pouncing at it off the bed and across the room.

Things that you can hold out or throw at arm's reach so you're not running around trying to get the cat to run work well for cat exercise. The trick is to catch them at the moment they're bored and looking for something to do, then enthusiastically play with them and appreciate every funny or cool move they make. He knows I watch his Flying Tail Chase thing every time and will do it to get attention if he thinks I'm too lost in the computer.

Here's a photo - got to put in a photo of the handsome Ari!

I hope that works, it's a Facebook photo.

Okay, let's put it in as a link... Ari Picture. That's my fuzz buddy curled up on his seat on our Two-Level Cat-and-Man Armchair. It's a great chair designed with a high seat for cat and lower seat for human, puts us at eye level with each other in great padded comfort.

First: Spock = awesome cat!

Second: Just recently discovered how useful diet cat food can be.

One of my cats is naturally thin; the other will eat too much and put on weight. I always just measured the amount of food I put in their bowls so the fat-tending cat didn't get fat. I thought diet pet food was a big scam to make money for the pet food companies.

But then I loaned out the Big Cat to my parents for reasons that are too long to go into here. I warned my mother not to feed BC too much or she would get fat. Yep--she started getting fat. Mother was unwilling to feed her less because BC would cry for food and Mother was too tender-hearted to refuse it.

Enter diet (weight-control) cat food. Mother is happy because she can feed BC more. BC is evidently happy because she's not crying to be fed all the time. I'm happy because BC's weight is back to reasonable. Bowling balls are happy because BC is no longer infringing on their trademark shape .

So, so handsome. And, I'm betting that he knows it, too.

Now quick, dose him with some catnip.
