I heard that someone's writing a screenplay of The Fault in Our Stars, but that may or may not mean anything.

I believe rights to Shatter Me have been sold.

Also, not a YA, and sort of off topic, but possibly of interest to anyone writing a fairy tale revamp: Maleficent is supposed to come out in 2014. http://www.movieinsider.com/m6876/maleficent/

As wampuscat stated above, Shatter Me has had the movie rights bought by 20th Century Fox.

Disney won the rights to the Matched trilogy after a bidding war with Paramount, if I'm not mistaken.

Ally Carter's HEIST SOCIETY was optioned by Drew Barrymore, who's supposed to direct it as well, I believe.

She announced the series had been optioned by Tapestry Films last month on her blog.

I also dislike the movie splitting trend that's happening. Harry Potter did need it, but the others don't. It's annoying!

I'm really excited about City of Bones and love the casting for Simon. I was really worried they would cast Logan Lerman and, while I LOVE him, he is not Simon! Robert is a good fit. I'm also unhappy about Jace's casting. I wanted Alex Pettyfer. He was practically casted as Jace by all of the fans!

I can't wait for The Perks of Being a Wallflower. With Stephen having some control, I'm sure he won't let them make the ending all perky and happy. Surely not.

He wrote the screenplay and he's directing, so I'm sure it'll turn out exactly the way he wants it to

If I recall correctly, Alex Pettyfer said he wasn't even slightly interested in the part for City of bones. You should check out Jamie's twitter though. I think he'll be able to pull it off. The fans will love him after watching him onscreen for 30 minutes or so. He's so charismatic.

As a screenwriter, I can't say I'm particularly ecstatic. I've read most of the scripts for these films. Some are accurate and some share no simularities but the titles. It's great they're getting picked up (from the YA writer perspective in me) but there are a million other original specs I'd rather see produced. Such is the Hollywood machine.

The only two I want to see are Perks and Fat Kid. The rest, especially City of Bones, could tank or float for all I care.

I'm deffiantely curious about the City of Bones, it might end up being a decent movie, but I don't think it will be "the next big thing" like a lot of people think. (probably just because its a best selling YA).

I deffinately don't like the Jace casting either (but stop pining over Alex-- he turned it down. They didn't have a choice there). The actor's just not attractive to me, (and don't worry you're not alone Mellymel... I secretly love Jace too). But we'll see.

Two movies I'm dissapointed never panned out was The Forest of Hands and Teeth and A Great and Terrible Beauty (although I'm not sure this one could ever live up.) They would have been pretty neat IMO.

I think I also heard there was some interest in Cinder as a movie.

Cinder interest! Count me in!

It's weird because I hear about so many movies being optioned, but not alot are actually moving forward with development. I think City of Bones, Beautiful Creatures and Perks are the only ones I know for sure are going to be a movie. There's talk about Divergent going into pre-production this year, but without any casting or any other concrete stuff it's still just speculation.

The thing is, Hollywood snaps up movie rights, not necessarily because they're eager in making the movie, but because they don't want anyone else to be able to. It's like having a weapon in your arsenal and you *may* decide to pull it out when you're running out of ideas, or if it turns out to be a huge hit. So a lot of books being optioned won't actually make it to the big screen.

The figure I heard was, about 90% of films in "development" never get made.

Yup, that'd why "optioned" isn't all that notable.

Oh, also WH3N Y0U W3RE M1NE by Rebecca S3rle has been optioned. It's a YA contemp, and she was just on a Comic Con panel for book-to-movie. There's a screenplay and director/producer. Not sure if they've started casting yet.

And I agree, 'optioned' doesn't mean much these days.

I read something a year or so ago about Incarceron getting off the ground. But when I heard they attached Taylor Lautner for Finn, I decided I really don't want that one ever to happen. Anyway, I have a feeling the sequel wouldn't play well as a movie, similar to His Dark Materials.

The Chaos Walking books adapted by Charlie Kaufman would be my nerdiest dream come true. It seems like a weird match (books with short sentences and fast pace vs. famously overcomplicated screenwriter), but I would LOVE to see that.

Does anybody have any idea what's happening with the Wicked Lovely movie? I remember it was optioned and that ran out, but Melissa Marr said it had been picked up by someone else.

Actually, the option never lapsed My producers renewed it the same week Universal announced that it was going into turn-around. My most recent conversation with my producers was last week, & they continue to say we're moving forward. I even have a coffee-table sized, full-colour book of the special effects visuals of the world & characters.

Like all films though, until it's actually on the screen it could die, so I'm as convinced as I was the day it sold

(My Graveminder option was the one that expired.)

Now, Wicked Lovely is a movie I wouldn't mind seeing on the big screen. I'd love someone like Guillermo Del Toro or Alfonso Cuarón to direct, though the chances of that are slim to nil.

tbh, it's about the only PNR series I'd like to see made into a movie.

I think they could make a really rad movie from the Blue Bloods series. And it would do really well, sorta Twilight meets Gossip Girl. Or a tv series, though somebody already took the name for a cop show.

Maybe. But I hate that series, so I'm biased. I read the first four or five books before I gave up. That was way back in my YA days of "keep reading, it'll get better, I promise." I wasted so much time back then

Hmmm that was one of my guilty pleasure books. Although I think it would make a better TV show than film.
