On the other, it probably means that because I'm working through an extremely small publisher, the agents didn't feel the publisher was worth their time. I'm kind of having a hard time rectifying this.

What I have garnered is that traditional publishing looks down on people who work with small presses or e-pub. That is until one takes off like gangbusters.

But I do think it sucks that there are a lot of industry people who look down on you if you aren't repped by an agent or published by a big publisher.

All of this has come down to my current state of FSD's. I don't know whether to submit my exorcism book out there to small presses and e-pubs, or just to let it sit in a box and rot.
Please, please don't let it sit anywhere. Don't look at this as absolutes. People look down from every vantage point at others in all walks of life, but this doesn't validate their positions. What works for you; what do you want to do. Do you want to see your work published, despite some loss of marketing machine? Then do it! Find some time (as I have) to do some of your own marketing. Feel the pride of seeing it in print (or e-) and know that people are reading it. Let it out into the light!!

Having a kind of yucky few days with Young Blue acting out. Typical teen stuff, but still doesn't make it easier to deal with when it's happening in your own household.

Did I tell you I'm going to Australia next week? Just booked it, so maybe not. It's much easier for me to do it because it's on my sister's staff travel on Qantas and standby is cheap. I also live with the thrill of victory when I get into Business and the agony of defeat when I don't.

And WOOT! for poop!

As for me, I'm super pumped right now, because I finally got a beta-able draft of my WiP! It took 8 months which is really long for me, but I'm excited for finishing. So if anyone wants to read a weird, probably unthrilling YA thriller, rep or PM. I can send the first few hundred words to see if the voice works for you, if you want.

Afternoon all.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARYN!!!

Lily, glad the appointment went well. Hope you're having a restful and stress-free day *hugs*

Yay for Para's flat!

Fire's tales from the trenches are always entertaining.

Have fun in Australia, Blue! Pictures please!

Ink is awesome, that is all. *snorples*

And I think that's my cue to add some more feedback to my shiny color-coded spreadsheet and get back into edits.

Phoenix!!!!! That's wonderful news!!!!! Truly. The furry guys sure know how to put us through it. I'm not sure how the puppy feels, but I'm hugely relieved

Lily, crossing everything for the results. *pets books in a polite, friendly fashion*

Fuck.

I just got an email from Kris. She can't get online and asked me to pass it on.

She's at the hospital with her little girl, who was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes this afternoon.

This sucks. It makes me want to put my babies under some kind of force field, and my heart just aches for her.

She says "pretty devastated. I know we'll deal with it, but it just feels so unfair."

Indeed. Dammit.

((((kris and wee kris))))

Sucksucksuck.

Poor Kris
I know it's a tiny, tiny consolation, but JD management and treatment has improved so much even in the last 5 yrs. Both of Nice Boss's kids were diagnosed as type 1 before they were ten - they're now happy, healthy adults with families of their own. But the initial adjustment is really hard, no question

Big hugs to Kris.

Oh, I missed the bad news re: Kris when I posted. Yes, Becky's so right -- treatment is SO much better these days! We have a family friend who is eleven, and he feels well, plays sports, etc. etc. Even the process of learning to do things himself went smoothly. I'm sending prayers/positive thoughts.

Send my hugs to Kris and little Kris. My SO is currently managing his sugar levels to keep off insulin, so we know the drills. Fortunately, JD can be much better managed these days than a decade ago. Not a consolation - but at least they caught it in time.

Damnit, Kris. Sending you and your daugh HUGE hugs. I signed on from the retreat to check for your news.

I know you're scared right now, but you're up to the task. Hang in there, lady.

Maryn, happy belated birthday.
