Whoa. Escalation to phone calls should totally call for law enforcement being involved.

I'm trying to understand this...

Are the folks responsible for the reviewer-bullying (the authors) known? Are they Big 6 published? Indie published? Self-published?

Not that it makes much difference, likely, but... I'm curious.

It can make a huge difference. I know of at least one major publisher (not a big 6, but still tied to a huge corporation) that gives its authors a multi-page "guide" for how to conduct oneself on line so as not to embarrass the company or its mousely overlord.

I have no idea who any of the involved parties write for, or if their publishers have similar "guides," but it's something to consider when the urge to hit "submit" strikes. Big corporations don't like to be embarrassed.

Lucy mentioned 'a woman' behind the site - and I'm curious to know if it's the same awful creature who recently 'outed' another GR reviewer on their own blog in a similar fashion?

This is well beyond acceptable behavior.

At this point I am hoping police or FBI involvement may give pause to anyone out there who may be tempted to copy these tactics.

And exactly who is behind this site is known. It is not difficult to get the information. I was PM'ed the site owner's name and home address by another AWer who tracked it down. It is not nearly so possible to be an anonymous attacker as some people seem to think.

I just read that post and I'm in shock. I don't understand how someone threaten another person and then call the victim a bully.

If you google the address you'll find that it's a business address for Senior Care Management Services, Inc.

I suspect it's just an address pulled at random.

The person named as the owner matches a reviewer on GRs. However, this person doesn't seem to be terribly active. I wonder is the name fake?

I know a number of people claim to know who is behind it. My fear would be the wrong people outed and blamed by someone.

Surely there is justification to have the site closed. It was ill-conceived in the first place. I can't imagine what the people behind it hoped to achieve by lashing out in such a manner.

That's just despicable. I'm wondering how her publisher feels about this. And I'm sure her agent must be thrilled. I know a couple of people represented by Erin Murphy Literary and I'm shocked that this is the kind of person she would represent.

Maybe it's time someone - either her agent or her publisher - had a chat with Ms. Schulman about appropriate author behavior.

I'd involve the police. I wouldn't have the first clue about the laws regarding this in the US and if a restraining order is really like an umbrella in a hurricane like "Lucy" said. But assuming the person behind stopGRbullies is not a totally crazy person, but someone who went waaaay overboard - it might just take a police involvement or restraining order to stop this crap.

This is getting beyond ridicoulus.

Surely the website host has some TOS wording about their services being used to stalk and harass others. I wonder if anyone's thought to contact them and see what can be done. Someone affected grabbing screencaps in case it 'disappears'?
