RWA National (Literacy Signing)

The RWA, in it annual quest to make life more interesting, has decided that this year the authors at the Literacy Signing will not be seated in alphabetical order.

They'll be sorted at random.
Readers will hunt down authors using maps issued at the door.
Sort of like a scavenger hunt.

If you're planning to go to the Literacy Signing ... You can reach the pdf of the 'signing table map' through the general info page here. The map will let you plan your journey ahead of time.

I'm at table 403. Come by and say hello as you travel the trackless wilderness.

This is my first signing, and I'm excited. I do know, however, that no one knows me. So I'll be one of those authors who nobody makes eye contact with.

I'm at table 304 if you want a copy of Rules of the Game to help literacy!!

You are going to be at the same table as Julie James, who writes for my publisher, Berkley.

I think it will be a madhouse. Most of us will spend all our time saying, "JAK is in that direction, over there."

The Literacy Signing is madness...but such fun madness! Tons of people there since it's open to the public. I'll look you up when I get there, Sandy!

Similar to RT. Overall, the names are mixed about.

Just curious - how would it work to sign an e-book? Someone asked me the other day, and I had no answer.

That's a good question. Maybe they passed out little cards that was the book's cover for the author to sign. (You know, those little cards that similar to the ones used with pizza ads but thicker) Just a guess.

We had CDs with cases. The cover art was on the case, and we signed the back of those cards.

When I first started out we had those disk cases too--some were cardboard and book sized, others were plastic disk cases.

Now some folks use this: http://www.kindlegraph.com/

Now I just take the books that are in print to signings, along with flyers about the ones that are only e-book.

For RT in April, we e-authors made cover cards. Mine came from VistaPrint. Had my cover on one side, the short blurb on the reverse, along with web site info and "where to buy" stuff. Many, many of them were grabbed by eager would-be readers. How many of them actually bought, of course, one can't know.

VistaPrint does a good job once you jump through their site's hoops. I was pleased with mine.

Carina provided the CDs for us, and they also gave us great cards with our covers and blurbs with a coupon on back.
