Tell me your opinion of the name 'Shadowing.'
Hi guys! Thanks for stopping by.
Alright, so I just finished my third draft of my novel, and I'm starting to get a little worried about the name of a race in my book. They are called the Shadowing dragons. Shadow + wing. They are named this name because 1) they are black, 2) while in a shadow, they can cast a spell that will allow them to steal an appearance of others. I know that readers won't care about a name if whatever it is is compelling/interesting/well-written. I've made sure they're not your typical black dragons, don't worry. But I also believe (at least me) that if something is poorly named or is drawn from a cliche, it can detract from its impact on the story. Does the name "Shadowing" bug you at all? Does it seem cliche? Do you think it would be better to an invent a strange name for them instead (eg, the Drakkathon)? And, most importantly, does this name make you think of the actual word "shadowing" (eg -the silhouette was shadowing the back wall) ? ![]() Thanks. |
