Now I don't have to whine and can just submit in .rtf. Well, once I have something written, that is.
Yeah, as far as I know everyone can read .rtf.

In my first post, I forgot about it, because I never use that format - I always use .docx. But yeah, .rtf is readable in Word, plus a bunch of other programs, so I don't see there being any problem with it.

I made a discussion thread in the SYW forum, as I mentioned and a few others said they thought it was a good idea. This thread will contain spoilers about who is writing what, so anyone who intends to judge entries should not go in there. Here's the link, but being in the SYW erotica forum you have to have the password to that forum to get in there. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/...d.php?t=253100

The judges know who they are, so unless you know you are a judge, you're free to take sneak peeks.

How... erotic does it need to be? By which I mean, how many sex scenes are required?

That would depend entirely on the length of the story, but the stories should be written to arouse.

Works will let me save as .doc, .docx and .rtf. So hopefully we're good to go now. Now hopefully I will have my new laptop but the time it's time to submit...

LOL, I'll be able to upload one way or another by the dead line. Gotta love flash drives.

Maybe a stupid question but... do we need a synopsis with such a low word count? (Some do, some don't.) Are we okay with just a query letter covering the usual?

Is this open to original stories only, or would you consider a reprint? I have something that fits the theme that was originally at the Ruthie's Club site (now defunct and not cached online, as far as I know).

You don't need a synopsis, a query, or a cover letter, just send us the story and we'll let that do the talking.

I am inclined to say yes, especially if you are sure you have the rights back, but let me confer with the other judges and be SURE. Poke me in a couple days if I haven't said anything.

Mine is coalescing. I still have to do some research. Yes, you heard it - background research on a 2K piece of erotica. Because I wouldn't feel right just making stuff up, and sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction.

As much as I'd love to take part, I'm out. I'd love to put "pen to paper" here, but I'm just not in the right head space to take part. Maybe next time around.

Not that I saw, Jan. It may be they're discussing it.

Meanwhile, I actually started my story. It's not coming easily, but whether than means anything or doesn't, who knows?

Thanks! They only bought exclusive rights for six months or a year -- forget which, but they've been closed for a couple years now, sadly. It'd be nice to get this story back out in the world.

If they bought the rights for a period that has now passed, then you're fine, especially since the company is gone. You're good to go.

I might actually have something for this on the writing side...

What's going on here as far as cover art? I have a few interesting ideas for an underground erotica cover, and I'd love to work on it.

Cover art is going to depend on whether we end up at a publisher or going the self-pub route. If it's the former, the publisher will make the decision. If it's the latter, we'll likely open up a discussion here and see if anyone wants to contribute, has ideas, etc.

FWIW, I'm inching closer to completing my first draft. I'm aware it's not all that good at this point, but I'm pretty sure I can beat it into submission.

In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

--Lt. Col. John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)

That would be great... I think. What are the advantages of getting a publisher for this kind of anthology?
