Not where I want to be.
I'm finally caving and looking into getting an ereader, but I want one that's going to be useful to me. I want e-ink, but I also want to be able to take notes on a book or document and give those notes to someone else, who may not have the same type of device.

I was leaning toward a Nook SimpleTouch, but I don't think I can give the notes I take to another person. I'm hoping to use the device for beta reading, as well as general reading.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks!

There are currently no ereaders (hardware or software) that allow you to export or share annotations. Kindle does allow you to share publicly highlighted passages.

For beta reading, send/receive the work as a document, not a PDF. You can highlight and add notes and then send back to them. My Kindle Fire works just fine for beta reading documents.

Yeah, I was kind of afraid of that. Kind of makes me want to scrap the idea of buying one.

I'll look into the Kindle Fire, but I think it's more than I want to spend and I was really hoping for e-ink.

Thanks everyone!

Now, on iOS and Android too (I think) there are ways to annotate .pdfs, or text or HTML documents and then share those documents with your annotations.

I'm a big fan of Good Reader on iOS for that; works really well.
