Hiya everyone! My name's Alyssa, I've been a lurker here for 10-odd years.
My writing has always been pretty sub-par (thus my lurking, in an attempt to improve), but I think I've finally got to the point where my writing is good enough to publish.
I'm currently working on a sci-fi manuscript, though it has fantasy undertones (in the sense that Star Wars is more fantasy than Star Trek). It's the first manuscript that this perfectionist little girlie is actually happy with.
Although I think it would sit with traditional publishers just fine, I'd really like to take a shot at self-publishing. I've got a lot of friends who have successfully ($1000-$10,000 per month) self-published through the KDP program and Createspace (some nix KDP Select and opt to spread through Smashwords and the likes), and I'd really like to give it a go. I have some experience with marketing, and I know editors and cover designers who can polish my work.
And, if I fail miserably, you'll probably see me start a thread about query letters.
Anyhoot, that's me! Hoping that now I actually have some more experience with writing (soon to be published??) that I can offer some mildly intelligent discussion.
Lemme just say, you guys are awesome. Whenever I meet new writers, I direct them to Absolute Write. Thanks for the decade of solid info!
