Magazine Editor Suspended for Writing Book?
I got this from Book Trade News Digest and saw the article in the Press Gazette. According to the article, there is talk in the industry that the editor of the design magazine Icon was suspended for publishing a book. (The publisher has refused to confirm this was why he was put on leave.) Other industry professionals are concerned because it's very common for journalists to write books or contribute to books.
Has anyone heard more about this? I know how accurate reporting about the publishing industry tends to be. So I was wondering if there was something this article left out, or something they didn't know. How common is it for editors to publish books in their field, even while they are still editors? (I own a book written by an editor at a British SF/fantasy publisher, while she was still employed in that field, but FWIW I think she did use a pen name.) Has this sort of thing happened before? Could the publisher be considering this a conflict of interest or competition or something like that?
