Not to mention the donation of Navy patrol boats to Sri Lanka to stop refugees leaving there, the go ahead to dump Abbot Point dredge spoil in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, the attempt to disappear loads of speeches and pre-election promises down an internet black hole, and the massive increase in expected costs for an already outdated NBN.

Meanwhile, Whyalla is still on the map.

ETA: I forgot about our PM saying this to Aung Sang Suu Kyi:

"I was an Opposition Leader myself for four years; I know that that position has some exhilarations and some frustrations and let’s hope as time goes by, for you in your country, the exhilarations are greater and the frustrations are lesser."

My favourite tweet from my daughter was a teaser for one of her articles after his pro-corporal punishment spiel last week:
Also in today's good news: Tony Abbott smacked his daughters, and thinks you should too

I must read that!

Not forgetting that one of Tone's daughters is a brand ambassador for BMW and that -- in a surprising coincidence -- the govt rejected Holden's bid for providing bomb-proof limos and bought a bunch of BMWs instead.

I didn't know that. *sigh*

I wonder what they'll surprise us with tomorrow.

I should have provided a link. Here's an article from SMH: Holden angered by media reports it did not submit bid to supply 'blast-proof' vehicles for Australian government VIPs.

The revelation appears to contradict reported Abbott government sources as saying Holden had not even submitted a bid in the tender because the car maker simply ''was not interested''.

Holden viewed that claim - which appeared in a News Corporation newspaper on Wednesday, just hours before the car maker announced its withdrawal - as part of a deliberate negative backgrounding campaign by Coalition ministers designed to make the company look uncommitted to Australia.

I had to read the article a few times to get the gist, but it looks as though BMW made a bid, but were not shortlisted by the previous government.

Oh, you're quite right.

The top-of-the-line Holden Caprice was recommended by the Attorney-General's Department in 2012 as the preferred option for a fleet of nine specialised blast-proof VIP vehicles to be used by the Prime Minister and other dignitaries, according to confidential government documents.

<<snip>>

It remains unclear why the Holden-BAE recommendation was not acted on, but a government insider from the time said the then-prime minister Julia Gillard had been concerned about negative publicity if Labor was seen to be spending $7 million of taxpayers' money on limousines in the lead-up to the election. The internal departmental documents from December 2012 raise questions as to how BMW came to be considered given it was not shortlisted and was not the successful bidder.

And then the new lot come in and order up BMWs. They're a shifty mob, they really are...

Agorism FTW!
News Flash!

A politician actually turns out to be a lying, self-serving, child-beating ass interested only in enriching himself and his cronies, while shafting the people who elected him (and the 99% in general), hiding as many facts as possible from the people, and doing all he can to have himself presented as a prince in the official history.

It's Shocking!

It's Original!

It's Unprecedented!

Could this be The Apocalypse?

Film at eleven.

I bet! It's hard enough but now everyone she comes into contact with has *that* picture in their head....
Yeah, it's hard to bargain on an adult footing with someone who's imagining bending you over their knee and paddling your little bum.

OTOH, it might help her sell some of those cars. :D

When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it was about cricket - Australia are really breaking my heart in that sport. But no, it's about spanking and politics - weird!

Iceland had a revolution and wrote their constitution specifically to combat corporate maleficence.

So, I'll say Iceland.

Is Iceland accepting new residents? I can learn the language ...

I used to think Australia was a haven of sorts, but that seems to be changing.

That shows what happens when you live in a country with not many people on it. You meet everyone in your local shop.....

A population that's less than an average city might have helped though...
