Here's the list I used. I actually carried it around with me when I had fulls out, and as it turned out, I was glad I did.

Will you represent everything I write? (middle grade novels, chapter books, PBs)?

If I write the occasional magazine story, can I continue to sub those myself?

How close is my manuscript to being ready for submission? Do you anticipate much editing and rewriting before it's submitted? Will you be working with me on this?

Do you have any particular publishers in mind?

How often do you like to communicate with authors? Do you make the contact, or do you expect the author to get in touch? Preferred mode of communication?

Do you discuss submission plans with clients before you sub a ms?
Once you agree to rep a work, how soon would you expect to sub it?

What made you decide to offer representation?

Do you send rejection letters to your authors? How?

Any blogging guidelines? Are online excerpts or blurbs okay, or a no-no?

I think everyone's given good advice on what questions to ask. Really think about what's important to you in an agent--good communication, having someone rep your entire career, having someone who'll stick with you if the first book doesn't sell, giving editorial feedback, not giving editorial feedback--and make sure the agent can offer what you need.

Good luck!

Thanks, guys. Those are helpful resources.

Here's hoping I'll be needing those lists soon...

Um...guys? The dirigible has come to rest in a strange new place. Don't fret about the cold. The heaters are working fine in your cabins. :)

I love snow.

One year when we lived in Germany, it began snowing in the middle of the night. Around 2 am, one of the stairwell neighbors pounded on our door and told us to come outside. The whole stairwell (eight apartments) went outside. The kids rode their sleds while the adults had a grand snowball fight. It was crazy.

Mmm... that hot chocolate makes me want to head to Downtown Santa Cruz. We have this wonderful independent bookstore whose owner looks like Santa. Next to the entrance there's a restaurant called Chocolate (decorated with poster from the movie) that serves about 10 different varieties of hot chocolate. My fave is the Frida--dark chocolate spiced with cinnamon and other spices, Mexican style. And this time of year, there's a fellow who gives carriage rides around the neighborhood in a big white carriage pulled by those huge draft horses...

I would like to invite the dirigible to head over thataway...

Okay, What's the difference between the Bounce House and the Blimp???
And why have I never posted here? I mean, I love blimps!

I'm going to hold my breathe until someone provides me satisfactory answers!

The Bouncy House is for random conversations. Whatever is on your mind at the moment that you feel like sharing. The Dirigible (a blimp! really, the very idea...) is for celebrating writing-related victories.

Now breathe.

I've been looking for a reason to post here. I wrote over 3k this weekend. The best part is that some of it was actually good =-)

It looks like, after months, my writer's block is finally lifting! Might not be a major accomplishment, but I'm certainly celebrating--I hope this is blimp err, I mean Dirigible worthy (sorry Judy).
