Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal on Girl Stuff Story Call Out

Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal on Girl Stuff
Please send us your stories on "Girl Stuff"-friendship, moods, self-worth, body image, parent relationships, sweetheart relationships, fashion, fitting in, peer pressure, menstrual cycles-anything you want to share with the next generation of young women about what they really need to know, what is important-and what you have discovered is not.

Please note that this is not the typical "Chicken Soup" book in that in addition to stories, there is actual content that helps teenagers navigate through teen years. If you have suggestions on what you think needs to be included, anecdotes about what you wish you had known when you were a teen, please feel free to send you two cents. On the "advice" snippets (a paragraph or less) please specify whether you want credit by full name, first name or a fake name. There is no payment for the advice inserts if used, however, we do pay $200 for each Chicken Soup story selected, and $50 for
Selected poems.

Please submit to [email protected] either by email or by WORD attachments. BE SURE to include your contact information ON THE ACTUAL STORIE (not just in the email as when I download the story they get separated).

THANK YOU!

Eve Hogan

Empty Nester's Stories Wanted

The "empty nest" experience tests the elasticity of both our house and our heart. Chicken Soup for the Empty Nester's Soul invites you to contribute a true story or anecdote that explores your losses and discoveries, rifts and rescues, pandemonium and silences - and the hope and humor that helped you survive it all.

Topics will include but not be limited to:

Leaving Already?
Broken Wings
Branching Out
Fledgling Flights
Boomerangs
Wings and Wisdom
Prodigals
Ruffled Feathers
Feathering Our Nests

We're looking for inspirational, true stories of 1000 words or less that will make readers laugh, cry, or sigh. Stories should be positive, universal, and non-controversial. The "message" should be evident without preaching. No essays, commentaries, tributes, philosophical, or biographical pieces will be accepted. Please refer to other Chicken Soup books to better understand our story-telling style or see sample stories at: www.emptynesterssoul.com.

You may submit more than one story, whether original or a favorite from magazines, newspapers, or other sources. For each original story published, a 50-word biography will be included about the author and a permission fee of $200 will be paid.

Email submissions are strongly preferred. Please submit your story at www.chickensoup.com. Be sure to select "Empty Nester's Soul" as the book title.

Deadline is January 31, 2007.

Although we would like to respond to every contribution, the volume of stories we receive makes that impossible. Only finalists will be notified prior to publication. We appreciate your patience during this decision-making process.

Thank you for joining us in touching the hearts and rekindling the spirits of millions of empty nesters everywhere. We look forward to receiving your stories!

From the CLASS website--

My Story as a Single MomI am looking for stories from single mothers to use as examples in a
book
that will illustrate how personalities affect the different ways we
handle difficulties.

This submission should tell of a situation that you found yourself in
as
a single mother. It should tell what you did and relate that to your
own
personality and temperament. In other words, why you did what you did
when another person of a different temperament probably would have done
it entirely differently given the same circumstances.

Include a 50 word preface explaining the situation. Please double space
and use Arial or other simple font. Write 200 words explaining how you
dealt with the situation. Include as much as possible about your
temperament or personality and how that affected the way you handled
it.
I am looking for stories that illustrate a lesson learned or a
spiritual
turning point. No preaching, please. This needs to appeal to secular as
well as Christian readers.

Email as an attached Word document to [email protected] with
?Single Mom? in the subject box.

If I should choose to include your story in the manuscript you will be
notified and will be given the opportunity to review any edits that are
made. You may choose to have your name included or remain anonymous.

Here are some possible topics that I am looking for:

Holidays
Transitions
School and school teacher issues
Finances
Spiritual experiences
Humorous situations
Illness, either yours or your child's
Vacations
Moving
Difficulties with cars, plumbing, etc.
Disciplining children
Your social life

I have recently started contributing to the Associated Content website. They accept all kinds of material, and I noticed that they don't shy away from Christian articles!

I have sold them articles on writing, low-carb lifestyle and credit scoring. They don't pay much--usually between $3-20 per article, but they do pay and if you have articles you've already sold elsewhere, you can sell them here as a reprint and pick up a few bucks.

Check it out at www.associatedcontent.com

From a member of Christian Writer's Fellowship Intl:

I am in the process of writing an inspirational/devotional book for U.S. military families, "Secure the Fort." Part of my plan for the book is to include other military families' writings, children's patriotic drawings, etc.
I am extending an invitation to anyone who has loved ones in the service. If you would like to submit an encouraging/touching patriotic poem you've written, share a favorite scripture that helped sustain you, submit a portion of a letter from the field, offer tid bits of encouragement/advice to new military families, etc, please email me at [email protected].
This book is intended to lift up and encourage our military families and help bring them closer to the Lord. All submissions will be considered, however I reserve rights to choose which ones will be included and would fit nicely with the existing content. All submissions are entered as a ministry to other military families. (No monetary compensation.) Note: You will be given credit as author of the material you submit! Let's make this an incredible venture in encouraging and supporting our troops and their families! (450 word max per submission please. Multiple submissions accepted for consideration.)
Thanks in advance!

I've had some good success with them, too - they don't pay bundles, but if you're already writing articles for other sources, it's a nice way to pick up some extra cash.

* The Wild Rose Press seeks Inspirational Romance

The Wild Rose Press, a New York based romance publisher, is openly seeking
submissions for their White Rose Line. Nicola Martinez, one of three editors
for the line, says, "We're looking for stories in any word length, so whether
it's a short story or a full-length novel, we'll take a look." The Wild Rose
Press publishes romance titles in a variety of lengths.Single Titles are
between 55,000 and 80,000 words. Rosebuds are between 20,000 and 55,000 words.
Miniature Roses are between 5, 000 and 20,000 words, and rosettes are under
5,000 words. "All books 55,000 and over go into print," said Martinez. The White
Rose Line is the inspirational imprint at Wild Rose Press, and an "element
of faith must be present in all White Rose books, without overtaking the
story. As in every romance, the
story's focus should be the conflict between the main characters," the
imprint guidelines say. "These books encompass protagonists who may or may not be
spiritual at the onset, but come to realize that faith is a cornerstone for
love. Faith should be one of the elements in these well-rounded stories. There
are no detailed love scenes in these accounts, but natural sexual tension is
encouraged. These stories can be a straight romance or include another
factor such as mystery, suspense or paranormal, etc. Please specify in the query
if the story includes elements beyond simple romance. White Rose
inspirationals should have an emotional rise and fall; however, the characters should not
make love unless they are married, and then it should be behind closed doors.
Feel free to delve into
sensitive topics, subjects that affect real people, but without profanity or
nudity. Protagonists should display layered characterization, people who
struggle with decisions on a regular basis, using their existent or growing
faith to augment their growth together and as Christians." "Authors are free to
submit to me directly at NMartinez@thewildro sepress.com, or they can submit to
one of the other White Rose editors," Martinez said. Further contact
information is available at the website. Wild Rose Press was launched in May 2006 by
partners Rhonda Penders and RJ Morris. The small electronic and print
publisher's titles span the romance sub-genre spectrum from sweet to sensually
erotic. Heralded as the "kinder, gentler publisher," no form letter rejections
are ever sent to authors who
submit, and response time is quicker than the market average. For more
information about The Wild Rose Press and its editorial needs, visit

CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE SISTERS' AND BROTHER'S SOUL

We are in immediate need of funny, inspirational and heartfelt stories for our newest upcoming title "Chicken Soup for the Sisters' and Brothers' Soul." THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS JANUARY 15, 2007. Publication is Fall 2007.

It's important that all stories submitted be about a relationship between a sister and a brother, not a sister-sister relationship or a brother-brother relationship. And we're including stories written by, and about, all age groups, from birth to childhood, the teen years to adulthood, the golden years to passing on.

And you don't necessarily need to be the sister or brother in the story; parents and grandparents are invited to share their stories, too, witnessing the interaction between their children and/or grandchildren as it relates to sister and brother relationships.

Tentative chapter headings include:
· Growing Up Together - Fun and lighthearted sister/brother stories
· She Did It! He Did It, First! - sibling rivalries and squabbles
· Big Brothers and Big Sisters - special moments younger siblings have with their older brothers and sisters
· Sons and Daughters - stories parents tell about rearing their daughters and sons
· Step by Step - stepfamily brother/sister relationships
· You Were Always the Favorite - coping with perceived or real parental favoritism
· We Were Crazy Kids - the humorous times shared as brothers and sisters
· Leader of the Pack - one child is often seen as a sibling leader, especially in adulthood
· Golden Times! - sibling relationships that have passed the half-century mark
· We Are Family - overall family-type stories

Stories must be true (non-fiction), written in first person, and 1,000 words or less. Stories should make readers laugh, cry or sigh, and be positive, universal and non-controversial. Also, the "point" or "message" should be evident without preaching. No essays, commentaries, tributes, philosophical or biographical pieces will be accepted. Please read a few stories in other Chicken Soup books to better understand our story-telling style.

You may submit more than one story. We accept previously published pieces, as long as you retained all rights to your story. For each story published, a 50-word biography will be included about the author and a permission fee of $200 per story will be paid. We also need sister and brother cartoons; if accepted for publication, payment will be $100 each. We do accept poems, although very few are used. Payment for poems is $50. All payments are paid within thirty days of publication. Again, the submission deadline is January 15, 2007, but the sooner, the better!

You can submit stories one of three ways: 1) e-mail stories through the Chicken Soup for the Soul website at www.chickensoup.com. Be sure to select "Sisters' and Brothers' Soul" as the book title; 2) e-mail your story along with your name, address and phone number to [email protected], and be sure to list "Sisters' and Brothers' Soul submission" in the e-mail subject line. Please note that we do not accept e-mail attachments, so type, copy or paste your story into the e-mail body. For specific submission information guidelines, please visit www.PublishingSyndicate.com; and 3) You may mail your submission to:

Men of Integrity
PAY: $50

Typically, our writers are Christian men fairly established in their walk
with Christ. We look for stories that illustrate biblical principles, written
by men who draw from their everyday experiences and lives. Personal
experiences that caused you to grow in your faith, or stories about areas of struggle
where God has challenged your thinking and encouraged a change in behavior,
are the types of stories that fit best into the Men of Integrity format.

Bylines 2008

Attention Writers!Contributors Wanted for Bylines 2008
Details: http://www.bylines2004.com/guidelines.php

We are now accepting submissions for Bylines 2008 Writers Desk Calendar and
we invite dedicated, serious writers who have been published and paid for their
work to submit an entry. All genres and disciplines are welcome.

Submission Guidelines

We're looking for succinct personal stories about the writing life. The
oh-wow success tales, the naked truth about what motivates you, the heartache of
rejection, the toughest lessons, the joy and pain of freelancing. Humor is good,
so is pathos. Please avoid routine, trite, ordinary stories. Read the many
insightful submissions in the current Bylines and you'll see what we mean. We
strongly urge you to read these entries so you understand what we're looking
for.

Writer's Bio
A few sentences about yourself. You're not dry and boring, so your bio
shouldn't be either. Give us your accomplishments but round out your profile so our
readers feel like they'd like to meet you for coffee. Or a beer.

Submission Length
The combined word count of your writing paragraph and bio should not exceed
300 words. We want room for your photo. However, don't send your photo yet.
We'll let you know if your submission has been chosen and request your picture
then.

Writer's Photo
If your submission is accepted, we will require a high resolution photograph.
You may send a digital image as long as the resolution is 300 dpi or higher.
If you do not have a high resolution digital image, please send us a quality
snap shot that we may use. Please note, your photograph will not be returned.
Do not send us your photo until you are notified that your submission has been
accepted for the calendar.

Submission Method
Send your submission within the body of your email (NOT as an attachment) to:
info(at)bylinescalendar.com (replace (at) with @)

Include your full name, address, phone number, email address and website. Do
not mail hard copies.

Fine Print
We reserve the right to edit submissions and bios chosen for Bylines but you
will have the opportunity to approve any changes. Bylines has one-time use
rights. Submissions and photographs will not be returned. We will accept
previously published work; just let us know when and where it appeared. Writer agrees
that pull quotes from their submission may be used on the Bylines web page, or
in other marketing.

Writer Compensation
1. Exposure and promotion. Bylines is sold at bookstores nationwide and on
the Internet. Your website and email address are listed in the calendar (with
your permission), and we provide a link from our website to yours. If you're the
outgoing type, we help arrange book signings at your local bookstore and/or
interviews with your local media. We also send out hundreds of press releases.
2. You get one free calendar and discounts on additional purchases. 3. Money.
It's only $5, but at least you can count us as a paying market. This is the
first year we've been able to offer to pay writers anything. Remember, this is a
labor of love, a tribute to writers and a break-even project.
Deadline
Submissions must be received no later than February 1, 2007. Writers will be
notified by April 15.

Chicken Soup for the American Idol Lover's Soul

Dear Fellow American Idol Fan-atics,

We know who we are - we're the ones who wouldn't miss an AI show even if the world were coming to an end. We're the ones who think that the vote between Clay and Ruben was one of the most important elections of the past decade. We're the ones who can't believe that there are people who have actually never heard of Bo Bice or Diana DeGarmo or even Taylor Hicks.

Now we have a chance to share how AI has impacted our lives. We are in immediate need of funny, inspirational and heartfelt true stories for our newest upcoming Chicken Soup title Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul.

The stories should be 1200 words or less, and should be positive and non-controversial. No tributes, philosophical, self-promoting or biographical pieces will be accepted.

The stories must be written in first person but you don't necessarily need to be the person that the story is about. It can be about a friend who auditioned for AI, your grandma who re-ignited her singing career after watching the show or your sister who began working with special needs kids having been inspired by Clay.

Tentative chapter headings include:

· The Dream Begins (stories from the Idols of the childhood moment when they knew they were meant to sing)

· Waiting in the Rain (contestant hopefuls'' stories of waiting)

· America Got It Wrong (dealing with disappointment)

· Simon Says (turning criticism into inspiration)

· Success is a Journey (lessons/experiences along the road)

· That's my Baby (stories from the Idol's parents and families)

· The Idol's Idols (stories from the Idols about who was their mentor/inspiration)

· Touched By an Idol (viewer's stories)

· "And Tonight Our Next Idol Hopeful Will be Singing." (stories of the songs that moved you - stories can be from Idols or fans)

· Behind the Scenes (stories of things the viewers never see..hopefully we''ll include stories from make-up and hair people and/or the Idol's voice coaches, etc.)

· Life After American Idol (stories from the Idols of what their lives look like not and how the experience has changed them)

As you can see, many of the stories will be written by the contestants or their family members, but we also want to hear from you, the fans - especially for the chapters:

· Touched By an Idol (viewer's stories)

· Success is a Journey (lessons/experiences along the road - must relate to Idol)

· "And Tonight Our Next Idol Hopeful Will be Singing." (stories of the songs that moved you)

You may submit more than one story. We accept previously published pieces, as long as you retained all rights to your story. For each story published, a 50-word biography will be included about the author and a permission fee of $200 per story will be paid. We also need AI cartoons and if accepted for publication, payment will be $100 each. We accept poems, although very few are used. Payment for poems is $50. All payment s are paid within thirty days of publication. The submission deadline is April 15th, but the sooner the better!

Please submit stories through the Chicken Soup for the Soul website at www.chickensoup.com. Click on Submit a Story and be sure to select "American Idol Soul" as the book title.

We look forward to reading you story!! Here's to Season 6!!

The Chicken Soup Family is preparing a serving especially for the Twenty-Something Soul and we are looking for stories. The twenty-something years are a time when of transition - out from under the security blanket of parents and college to face the "real world." This decade of life is full of changes and new experiences. The twenty-something years also involve decisions without clear answers, expectations and pressures, and self-doubts that make this rite of passage a bit of a bumpy ride.

Chicken Soup for the Twenty-Something Soul will cater to the soul of a twenty-something and ease readers of Chicken Soup for the College Years into their next phase of life. Jack Canfield and Mark Hansen are teaming up with life coach and author of Twenty Something, Twenty Everything Christine Hassler to serve up stories that resonate with the twenty-something journey.

We're looking for true stories that will touch the souls of the readers and make them laugh, cry, sigh or just say, "Wow!" Stories may be about any aspect of a twenty-something's life such as career, relationships, health, finances, family, and self identity. Stories of twenty-something's who have incredible lessons to share will inspire twenty-something's to learn how to lay the foundation of their own life with integrity, faith, and even a sense of humor.

Please share your inspirational, true experiences of 1000 words or less. You may submit as many stories as you would like. For each story selected to be published in the book, a 50-word biography will be included about the author and a permission fee of $200 will be paid. The submission deadline is September 2007.

Email submissions are strongly preferred. Send stories with your name, address, phone and email address on the manuscript through our website at www.chickensoup.com. Please select Twenty Something as the book title.

If unable to email, please send a hard copy (and on disk if possible) c/o Chicken Soup for the Twenty Something Soul to Barbara LoMonaco, 326 Junipero Plaza, Santa Barbara, Ca. 93105. Material will not be returned. Due to the volume of stories we receive, we are unable to respond to each contribution. Finalists, only, will be notified prior to publication and permission to print will be requested.
