I'm Aria. I am not an accomplished writer by any means, but I've slowly been getting the itch to write novels again. I used to write a LOT, but got into programming and computer science a few years ago -- I now work at a video game studio as a programmer by day, which energizes me creatively but isn't much of an outlet (since all of that is the job of our designers, artists, writers, etc.) I'm hoping to be able to unleash all of that energy into writing!

I'm not sure what to expect from a writing community, but I am excited to meet everyone and to explore the resources.

Hi Aria,
Welcome to the forum. I'm pretty new too but have been browsing the forum for some time. That's pretty cool that you're a video game programmer though.

:welcome: aria! My brother lives in Seattle. See, already we have something in common (besides wanting to write)

Take your time to get a feel for the place. There is a lot here!

Read the stickies in the forums. They lay out important dos and don'ts.

When you start feeling a little comfy, head over to SYW (Share Your Work). Password: vista
You can't start a thread there until you reach 50 posts (and common wisdom is to wait longer than that). But, you can read what others have put up, get a feel for how others give feedback, and give some of your own. Showing that you can be a 'giver' helps before you ask for others to do the same for you :)
I have learned a lot about writing here ^

Lots of creative silliness to be found here too!

I look forward to seeing you around the threads!

Welcome from an ex-IT man, now retired and put out to pasture.

I don't mind the retired bit - it means I can sleep more but I hate all the grass they keep making me eat.

Enjoy the forum.

Take some time and read the Newbie Guide and the Stickies found
at the top of Forum pages. They are your best guide to learning about
Absolute Write.

Please read the FAQ about posting photos.

In fact we have lots of brilliant FAQs check them out.

Members who want to start a thread in Share Your Work to have work critiqued need
50 posts. Don’t make a mad dash to reach your 50 posts. That is frowned upon and can lead to your posts being deleted.
Take some time to greet fellow newbies, critique other members’ works, or join a discussion.
