When I type the cursor jumps out of the space where I'm typing and goes to the little "Find" area in the upper left. This is very annoying. Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?...I want the cursor to stay where I want to type.
Thanks.

Is your touchpad turned on? You might be clicking it with your thumb when you type.

This is a desktop computer; the keyboard has no touchpad.

Siana is on to something. See if you can figure out what keystrokes take you there on purpose. (Start by trying Crtl-F.) Then see if you might be inadvertently doing that as you type, i.e., when it happens, what character(s) did you just type? I'd be willing to bet that's what is going on.

Maryn, who sometimes accidentally deletes the line she just typed online, but only on the laptop--but knows why, at least

My PC broke so I'm having to use a laptop and it's driving me mad. I hate the bloody touchpad. Just my sleeve brushing across it causes problems.

Is there any way of switching off without taking the laptop apart?

As to the OP, I also think Siana is on to it.

Miranda, I can only tell you what works on my laptop.

Hold down the function key (Fn) and the F3 key at the same time. I also loathe those touchie things.

Most touchpads include a sensitivity setting so that they won't react to sleeves.

To the OP, does it always happen or sometimes happen? If you type slowly, with one finger, does it happen?

I know you said it was a desktop, but just as a ferex, the Toshiba laptop KB has a very small shift key on the left and it drove me buggy to the point where I won't buy a Toshiba laptop. Kept missing the key and getting all kinds of weird results.

And since this thread has a complaints subtext going on, am I the only person who thinks the current style of chicklet keyboard on laptops is an abomination? Anyone else remember the PC Jr. ?

I'm using a Lenovo and I think F3 is to turn the volume up. I think it might be F4. Or possibly F10..... Hmm...

You're a genius, Cath! Thank you!

I've now turned it off and know how to turn it back on if I need to.
