I am looking for some possible Gay Fiction reads(male on male) and a fairly recent book(2008-2014)

Preferences:

1. young adult is preferred but I can read a bit older so it doesn't need to be ya

2. I don't mind sex but no erotica/porn lol. I want to be able to read this in public without feeling strange :D

3. Please no romance heavy book(the plot of the book should NOT surround the character(s) and be the driving force of the book)

4. Trilogy or series preferred

5. Fantasy Preferred but Dystopian, Sci-fi(nothing too extreme) and Paranormal are good as well.

6. Action driven with twists are good

Some of my faves are:
1. Captive Prince(Love, Love, love)
2. seidman
3. Dreams of fire and gods
4. Alliance by Shannon Dermott

I found this list, Gay Fiction Booklist That Doesn't Suck. Most of the titles seem to be fantasy. Brief synopses and reviews are included, with discussion of what the blogger liked and disliked about them. Of course, each reader has to draw their own conclusion, but it may give you an idea of some books to try.

You might try Ethan of Athos by Lois McMaster Bujold. Not YA but certainly readable by that age group. No sex. Not a lot of romance. Not a series, it's a one-off. It's an action/adventure book that takes place mostly on a space station. It's more character-driven than nuts and bolts SF (though, like all Bujold's SF, it really is SF with the two central, colliding problems being solidly based in biology and part of the solution also based on the biology of oxygen generation; and the science fictional aspects of life on a Space Station are deftly and also humorously dealt with).

For fantasy, there's the Last Herald-Mage trilogy by Mercedes Lacky. YAish, no erotica, yes romance.

Swordspoint by Ellen Kushner. First of three books. Fantasy but not much magic. Not YA. Some sex. I'm not sure if you could call it a romance but it's very, very good.

Daughter of Mystery by Heather Rose Jones. Fantasy/Mystery. Not sure of the sex content.

Possibly the Doctrine of Labyrinths by Sarah Monette. Fantasy. Four books in that series, starting with Melusine. Very violent, definitely not YA. IIRC some of the sex is rather explicate. -->Insert all the trigger warnings here!<--

Here's a Goodreads list of fantasy books with gay protagonists.

I have GOT to learn to type faster. ;-)

Oh, I'll add A Door into Ocean by Joan Slonczewski. SF, not much sex if any (it's been a while since I read it). Not a series.

I enjoyed Lynn Flewelling's Nightrunner books too. They were one of the first fantasy novels I ran across where the characters' orientation really weren't a big deal either way. And while there's a romantic arc, it's not the main plot. The protagonists get together after the first couple books and continue to have adventures and resolve issues as a couple.

Loathe though I am to contradict someone when they're recommending my novel, the original post was asking for male-oriented stories, for which Daughter of Mystery doesn't quality. (Mind you, there is a gay male couple embedded in the story as something of an easter egg, but I doubt that would satisfy the specific request.)

yeah it would definitely need to be something M/m oriented.....

I have nothing against LBT fiction but I can't really relate so I tend to just avoid it :D

Preferably something fairly recent 2008-2014 :)

I read right past the M/M request, sorry. That leaves out Door into Ocean, too.

I'd recommend Steve Berman's "Vintage" and Kelly York's "Hushed", though the latter is contemporary lit rather than fantasy.

Bumping this thread :) Could use some YA gay reads or decent adult reads.

I generally prefer YA as it is easier to relate but Adult Gay reads are fine.
Erotica is usually not preferred unless it is not heavy(they don't need to be having sex every other page lol)

Trilogies/Series preferred

Action packed and possibly good twists :)
Love triangles are fine but have a GOOD ONE.

This is exactly the sort of thing that *should* up be my alley. But I haven't been reading as much, and I don't read much YA...

I've heard good things about Harmony Ink Press. They have a lot of adventurous LGBT YA.

Barren, in my signature, is M/M fantasy with a focus on the main plot rather than the romance.

Doesn't tick all your boxes but here's one for your consideration: We Disappear by Scott Heim. Adult fiction, protagonist is gay, there's a twist or two, mystery is the main focus. It was a bit of a page-turner from what I remember.
