I think I probably know the answer in my heart, but just wanted to put this out there in case others were in the same quandary and/or had any input.
I enjoy almost anything except contemporary romance. I love Fantasy, Paranormal, Mystery, Historical Fiction, Dystopian, Action/Adventure etc. However, my WIP seems to be contemporary romance. I've tried to make it a mystery, but it just feels corny. I want to make it paranormal or fantasy, but the characters are just not cooperating.
I began this WIP in the early 2000s. I've thought about totally abandoning it, but I've missed the characters over the years and I want to know what happens to them. But shouldn't the genre I write by the same genre I actually read?
Why, oh why, are my characters trying to be contemporary when it's the one genre I really avoid reading.
How do I fix this WIP or should I just abandon it and start anew?
