When I started this thread the YouTube videos had about 12-14 views each. GSP owes me at least $5 for boosting their profile!

Sad thing is, that's potentially 12 to 14 people who may have already given GSP their money. Unless they're all Salviani or the makers of the videos. I'm going to hope it's that one.

I'm starting to get Fiverr ads on here now and I haven't even been to the site!

Oh, I simply had to post this message from yoogle's page on Fiverr.com. Yoogle is better known to us as "Clive", the poor man's Sir Donald Sinden:

oilyfiverr_zpsb60f5068.jpg

http://www.fiverr.com/yoogle/do-a-3...in-uk-accent?funnel=2014072815035130212777460

Fiverr.com in a nutshell. I'd love to see GSP try this with their own product - "Thanks for that terrific video, Clive! We'd like to send you a ghostwritten/plagiarized book with your name on the cover in case anyone asks awkward questions later. Just tell us which surname you want us to use!"

As for the GSP Facebook, I've come to the conclusion that it's been abandoned as more trouble than it's worth. Which is quite sad for Jurgen, who's still waiting for a spambot or paid shill to name one of their books.

Anyone?

Bhullar?

Well spotted!

I see the main site is still up, drifting like a ghost net. I guess Adam only has to snare one hapless customer and it's made the project worthwhile. It's not as if he spent up big on hiring Goldilocks and the Three Stooges.

A complaint about Fiverr.com, supplier (or enabler) of fake video testimonials on an industrial scale, is now winging its way to the ASA.

Of course, Fiverr will just point to this disclaimer on their website:

The contents of Gigs on Fiverr are all user generated. Fiverr does not check user uploaded/created content for violations of copyright or other rights.
http://support.fiverr.com/hc/en-us/articles/201695557-Copycat-Gigs

So Fiverr sellers don't feel they're to blame for how their videos are used and Fiverr itself doesn't check their content. It's a closed, responsibility-free loop.

I came across this on the Fiverr Forum:

Fake Endorsements for Hire are Illegal see FTC

I was shopping the video section and watched one fellow with all sorts of video endorsements.

In one video he was a DJ, in another a student, another a business owner. All different names in the videos were used.

The nature of the video --- endorsements and testimonials. 'I bought this product', 'I used services of this company', etc.

There are laws about this sort of behavior. It is illegal in the United States to falsely endorse anyone and where such is paid or an actor pretending, such needs to be disclosed, ideally in said video.

Same prohibition exists against written endorsements, audio based, video, etc.

If you are not a REAL customer of a business, you have no reason to be doing endorsements of such.

The Federal Trade Commission oversees regulating such and a few years back cracked down in a big way about this sort of behavior. Certainly needs reigned in here on Fiverr or some clear ground rules set for sellers.
http://forum.fiverr.com/discussion/34989/fake-endorsements-for-hire-are-illegal-see-ftc/p1

Note that a member, not a Fiverr representative, had to spell it out!

I wonder if anyone approached the FTC over Salviani's use of fake testimonials for Raider?

I've just quoted the email on the Raider thread so I no longer have an excuse to keep you in the dark:

Green Shore Publishing have not responded and I will shortly be referring this matter for formal Investigation.

I believe you have also made further complaints to the ASA in relation to testimonials alleged to be false.

As paid-for testimonial videos through sites such as Fiverr.com are new territory for the ASA, we’ll be discussing the issue internally shortly.

We may decide to put the matter of Green Shore to the ASA Council as a “test case”, allow them to make a decision and set a precedent on the matter for the other complaints of this nature.

I don't know if Adam thinks he's safe in New Jersey, but leaving a website full of misleading information up and running after a warning from the ASA isn't the act of a rational person.

Huzzah! That's excellent news :D

Here's hoping their internal discussions about fiverr result in some movement on that front too. I would love to see some official body tear into their slithery disavowals of responsibility for "misuse" (which is seemingly the most popular use...) of their "service".

Had to refrain from posting on the Raider thread because fiverr makes my blood boil.

Anyone who uses the word 'huzzah!' in 2014 is my friend for life.

Also, I've just noticed the 'Transcript' button underneath Green Screen Clive's YouTube vid and can't resist sharing the opening words with you all:

0:00hello everyone my name is Chloe but I've had the good fortune to be working with
0:04great
0:05budget people at green shawl publishing

Truly, the internet is a wonderful place.

I use it a lot. If Salviani gets pinched I'll even break out the frabjous day routine.

I hope the transcription cost less than a fiverr, or that the transcriber was just trolling. I prefer the latter idea, because I like to think someone there is undercutting the shady testimonial shenanigans in his/her own quiet way.

Found this thread on Writers Beware and all I can say is 'wow' to the whole story. Good detective work by several people, and it looks like the proper authorities are taking an interest as well.

I wonder what other tidbits you have hiding around this site ... ;-)

This is even better than watching Father Ted re-runs...

"Six Easy Steps To Setting Up A Vanity Publisher" by Adam 'Fr. Doughal' Salviani.

STEP ONE...

Big vanity publisher.... [sets up London virtual office].... Far away vanity publisher...

Funny, Mick.

Well, you'll all be staggered to hear that Waterstones are unaware that they're in a partnership with Green Shore Publishing:

We don’t have any partnership with this company under the name on their site. I will be passing this on to the relevant parties for further investigation.

Poor Adam. Does anyone love him? Apart from Fiverr.com, that is?

Adam Salviani is such a chancer. I suppose that he had no idea what a large and important bookseller Waterstones is.

Adam Salviani is such a chancer. I suppose that he had no idea what a large and important bookseller Waterstones is.

I think he relies on the fact that few people know much about a book's journey from the author's imagination to the shelves of your local bookshop. A depressingly large number of would-be authors who click on Google's ad for GSP will take the superficially slick and convincing website at face value. "This company will get my book into Waterstones and Smiths! They'll advertise my book on the radio! GSP authors are happy to provide testimonials! They have a huge office in London! Blimey, it's so huge they probably have their own printing press on the premises!"

By the way, on the 11th of this month 'Patricia' posted on Victoria's Writer Beware blog entry on GSP to say that she was thinking of buying the £300 package...until she did her homework! I'd love to know exactly when Patricia saw GSP's website, which still exists and hasn't been modified in any way despite the intervention of the ASA.

Let's take a moment to marvel at just how quickly Salviani's plan to fleece UK and Irish writers fell apart. Here's a timeline:

6th March 2014 - GSP website went live.

April - "Testimonials" uploaded to YouTube.

5th July - I stumbled across the GSP website and started this thread.

9th July - two bizarre ads posing as articles about GSP appeared, both written in poor English:
http://www.blogfirstteam.org/green-shore-publishing-looking-for-the-best-publishing/#comment-20068
http://www.pasuicideprevention.com/green-shore-publishing-importance-of-publishing/

10th July - GSP graciously accepted my play for publication (at a price). When I expressed my concerns about the company and sent a link to this thread they replied:

Thank you for letting me know about the site you've mentioned. Unfortunately there is no end to the misinformation and slander that the internet can produce and I think you'll find that almost any publishing company has these kinds of baseless claims made about them on message boards.

In any case, the reason you're not finding information on our titles is because our imprint was only established six months ago. We are part of a larger group, as mentioned, but we as a company only began opperations in January.

They ignored my request for the ISBNs of the books mentioned on their website.

13th July - "conorp" posted in support of GSP, the only person to do so.

More pseudo-articles about GSP appeared:
http://sustainabledesigncorp.org/green-shore-publishing-high-quality-production/

http://www.articleinput.com/green-shore-publishing-excellent-customer-service/

And another, almost certainly written by Adam Salviani himself:
http://biohunt.net/green-shore-publishing-made-successful-sales-reality/

16th July - THE BIG BREAKTHROUGH! :partyguy:
Mike99 posted to tell us that he submitted work to GSP and Raider Publishing International...and both contracts bore the signature of Adam Salviani, although the GSP one didn't print his name and the signature is virtually illegible.

GSP joined Facebook and Twitter.

17th July
Another thinly-disguised ad appeared:
http://www.articleinput.com/green-shore-publishing-excellent-customer-service/

22nd July
Victoria Strauss blogged about GSP:
http://accrispin.blogspot.co.uk/2014/07/warning-green-shore-publishing.html

So did Mick Rooney:
http://www.theindependentpublishingmagazine.com/2014/07/rpi-now-trying-to-directly-lure-uk.html

The Great Spambot Invasion of 2014 took place on GSP's Facebook. Within the space of 35 minutes ten hilariously bogus authors, bringing with them thousands of 'likes', expressed their undying gratitude to their publisher. These were also GSP's last updates to Facebook.

23rd July
Last GSP Tweet.

July 24th
Jurgen Wolff discovered that the three happy GSP authors on the company's website are actors who sell their services through Fiverr.com and are willing to say almost anything for $5:
http://timetowrite.blogs.com/weblog...lishing-and-view-their-fake-testimonials.html

Sixpence provided an interesting explanation of how badly GSP's attempts to manipulate social media backfired:
http://orlawritesthings.com/2014/07/24/anatomy-of-a-scam-or-how-not-to-use-social-media/

July 25th
Helix discovered that there is a conorp on Fiverr who is "willing to leave a short positive review for you anywhere online":
http://www.fiverr.com/conorp

31st July
The Advertising Standards Authority informed me that they are about to start a formal investigation of GSP.

14th August
Hackney Trading Standards informed me that their investigation of GSP is also in hand.

So GSP only had four months in which to ensnare new writers before they were overwhelmed by a tsunami of bad publicity and scrutiny by the authorities. I'd love to know how Adam Salviani feels about this monumental failure!

I will say that Salviani does not 'feel'. The guy is ruthless.

I know of one of the victims of Raider Publishing International who telephoned his home number and a member of his family picked up.When this family member heard who was calling and why, he used a 4-letter word to describe him and another to tell him to go away after which he threw the phone down. The family member, by the way, is a respected member to that part of New York.

For some reason best known to GSP, comments by three of their spambot "authors" - Jackline Anna, Amelie Nicola and Eliana Marie - have also vanished, along with their phoney Facebook accounts.

ETA: Oh, wait! I reported all the spambots to Facebook a couple of weeks ago. I wonder if they're in the process of deleting them?

And the delightful story never ends...

Remember the delectable Jennifer Holloway, once the proclaimed YouTube PR mouthpiece for Raider, when all those people were saying nasty things, and none of us could find her anywhere on LinkedIn...

Roll up, roll up ... here's Jenny again - this time lauding the fantastic website design abilities of...

SparkSphere

Jez, Jenny, same clothes and jewels, same backdrop as the Raider video.

I wonder... Is this Jenny's latest Flickr vibe, or is it the Boy Adam's latest author scam after we tried to sink the GreenShore Publishing boat?

Salviani is starting to make Author Solutions look like the Microsoft or Apple of the digital content world.

This is Keystone cops stuff. It just keeps on giving and giving!

I know that Spark Sphere is reading this...Hi! I'd suggest that an effective response to claims that Spark Sphere is run by Adam Salviani is to say 'no, AS has nothing to do with this business at all' and add some details to the website. Because the current responses on FB look like obfuscation to me.

ETA: And the response has been deleted. I still think an upfront, definitive statement is a good idea.
