Kindle. Yeah, I have one. Somewhere. I think I know where it is. Maybe. It's probably out of juice. No idea where its cord is, though....

I went to get a police record for me, today. Even though I know it's clean, part of me was all stressed out over it. And then I came home and wasn't feeling well so I napped and had all sorts of weird nightmares.

On the upside, I'm going to dinner with two really good friends. :)

Just spent two hours talking science students through the basics of writing humanities papers. Shoot me in the head and be done with it. "But if everything's marked subjectively, then how do you know if you got it right?"

(sigh)

Rubrics.

I teach writing to a bunch of ESL folks, and it's the same thing. So we came up with rubrics that basically quantified the stuff we were already grading on. Didn't change what I look for or how I grade at all, but now they get a checklist of what they did wrong so that I can point to it and say "THAT'S why you got a C."

I'm a science person and I write. I can't tell you how many arguments I had with college classmates on writing when we did reports together.

I remember one classmate in particular who loved purple prose. It does not lend itself well to writing about ion channels in neuron structures. :D

More of Hulk fan than the Hulkbuster, myself.

Though the interaction between Tony and Bruce has been great.

Live and die by 'em. This was more along the lines of 'what is the right thesis,' and objecting to the answer that there was no objectively correct thesis to be had -- that these papers were about picking a convincing argument that could be supported with evidence. Some minor outrage ensued.

Bring on Age of Ultron. I'm here for the Maximoffs.

Hi, DeleyanLee! Sorry for the late reply. Battling a cold and fever. I've been good. I'm trying to motivate myself to get back to writing my novels and anxiously awaiting Avengers 2. How are you?

I'm hanging in. I've got something wrong with my feet that may actually force me to go to the doctor and figure it out. I like my doctor, don't get me wrong. It's all the testing and such that I detest. But, it has to be done, I just don't wanna do it.

And I grok with getting back into the writing groove. It's been several months and it's a struggle getting back into it. Totally grok that.

I'll stay in the corner on the Avengers-love. No problem. ;) You guys carry on.

It's a good thing that even in a superhero context, there is a powerful and mighty unicorn! :D

Speaking of Wolverine...

We had the National Song Contest a few weeks ago, which is where the country chooses the song that will represent us at the Eurovision Song Contest. One of the songs, in the chorus, said:

"It's in the newspaper,
It's not logical at all.
You have metal claws."

Now, the song is supposedly about some woman the singer was in love with, and how awesome she was. The choice of words is more related to what rhymes in Portuguese than anything else. But the kidlets and I agree it's really a veiled homage to Wolverine. :D

Science Bros FTW!

(I'm also really looking forward to Scarlet Witch.)

Yeah, I can get into this superhero idea, but the colors are a bit much.

It's the yellow that's my issue. So. Bright.
