Announcing:

The 2013 Person Of the Year Award.

Time does it, why shouldn't we?
(At least our decision will wait until the year is actually over.)

With thanks and appreciation to Robeiae for the suggestion.

The Person of the Year will be bestowed by the voters of AW on "the person or persons who most affected the news and our lives, for good or ill, and embodied what was important about the year." (Hey, that's how TIME says they do it.) This event is intended for public figures, people/persons who have had significant impact on the world outside of AW. (I mean, we all know Mac or Lisa would have to win the inside vote, yeah? :) )

Any AW member may make a nomination.

Any AW member may vote within the voting window.

The nomination period OPENS December 20, 2013 and CLOSES 11:59 PM (US Central Time), January 2, 2014.

The Voting Window OPENS January 3, 2014 and CLOSES 11:59 PM (US Central Time) January 10, 2014.

In the event of a tie, a run off vote will occur.

Debate/campaigning/questioning of nominations should occur out in P&CE, but
for a nomination to be valid it must be made within this stickied thread.

Nominations are limited to 500 words maximum. Anything longer will be ruthlessly trimmed from the end of the nomination.

Shorter is usually more read than longer, however there must be some supporting thoughts and reasoning included. ("Vote Pedro" will not a nomination make. )

Links and supporting references are advisable.

If an individual or entity is nominated more than once, only the initial nomination will be kept. The additional nominations will be moved into P&CE as discussion.

You are the nominating committee. You are the deciders.

Who do you think had the biggest impact on our world in 2013?
