The first time you left me
I was two weeks old.

The second time you left me
I was sixty-one.

The first time you left me
I told myself you loved me.

The second time you left me
I wondered "Did she ever really love me?"

I loved you the first time
I loved you at the end.

You're forever in my heart
No more leaving me.

Yes, thank you for posting this and will keep you in my thoughts. Beautiful how the closing lines juxtapose the title.

Beautiful poem, Lavern. I don't know the story behind it, but the words - though simple and brief - say a lot.

Awwwww,

Thank you all so much for your kind words. :Hug2:

I really wasn't expecting any response - I just had to get those feelings off my chest, so to speak.

You see, Mom abandoned me when I was an infant - 33 years later, I found her, and almost 30 years after that, she left me again as a result of cancer.

We had a pretty good relationship in the interim, and forgiveness is a powerful thing, so it's all good. ;)

Awww...Lavern. I'm glad to hear that your story had a happy ending...I mean, not that cancer took her life of course, but that you found each other and were able to establish a good relationship despite the past. That's beautiful. :)
