A Little Good News: Runner Helps Injured Opponent Finish Race

I got a little warm-fuzzy from this one and thought I'd share it.

Devils Lake Senior Melanie Bailey was approaching the finish line when she spotted a competitor groaning in pain on the ground. That competitor was Fargo South runner Danielle LeNoue who had injured her patella tendon. Most runners kept going, with the finish line in site, but Bailey stopped.

Bailey asked if she could help LeNoue finish the race. The two then crossed the finish line together with Bailey carrying LeNoue on her back.

Good job, Melanie. At the high school level for sure, sportsmanship should be a major component of sports. And you just won a platinum medal in my book.
