What are some good movies about writers and/or writing? I'm in the mood to see how someone else deals with it.

In fair Verona, where we lay our scene.
Secret Window

Ruby Sparks

Third Person
(haven't seen it, but heard good things)

Dangerous Beauty (protag is a poet, gorgeous film set in 16th century Venice)

I'll come back if I think of more.

Wonder Boys is my favourite.

(And All The President's Men if journalist writers count.)

Ooh yes. That's the film that made me want be a romance writer! I need to watch that again.

Lots of old Woody Allen films are about writers. Although I can't remember which ones right now, aside from Deconstructing Harry, Bullets Over Broadway and Manhattan.

Authors Anonymous was cute. About a writing group and how the... nah, I won't spoil it. Kaley Cuoco stars and I thought the acting was pretty good as a whole.

Now to regain my man-card: I love mindless action movies.

I second Ruby Sparks. It personifies the love of writing. It helps that the lead actress is also the screenwriter.

A lot of great suggestions^^. I love Wonder Boys too, based on the novel by one of the best writers not only of our time but I think any time, Michael Chabon. If you want a look at the uglier side of a writer's life that looks at alcoholism, The Lost Weekend with Ray Milland is a great one. And one that I don't think has been mentioned but one of the best movies I've ever seen, period, stars the wonderful Charlotte Rampling, Swimming Pool.

Barfly is good. Factotum is better.

The Words with Bradley Cooper was very good.

Also, Stuck in Love with Greg Kinnear. It's about a whole family of writers and their relationships. I enjoyed. :)

Listen Up Philip is a hilarious movie about the dark side of writing; the hero is a competitive, narcissistic jerk. Not for all tastes, but I laughed a lot.

I also laughed at The Words, but for different reasons. I just couldn't get over how it portrayed agents and editors as stuffy white-haired men in bowties.

And then there was About Time, where Rachel McAdams was an editor and she brought the "only copy" of an author's ms. home and spilled something on it. Why can't movies about writing and publishing be up to date? Is it just not romantic enough?

A great movie that many of you may have seen, not about a writer as much as about the making of the writer, Tobias Wolff, is This Boy's Life starring Di Caprio as Wolff and De Niro as his evil stepfather. Would highly recommend. Ellen Barkin's great as Wolff's mother.

Yeah, Swimming Pool is one of those movies I'd have thought would be more popular. I can't think of a time when I saw Charlotte Rampling do something I didn't like.

I'm not sure, but yes, I could quite easily be you. Since I have no idea who the hell I am anymore. Plus I've lost my wallet and all of my ID, so there's no way to disprove it.
