The dark side of the moon, making sinister plans..
Last night I watched 'Employee of the Month', good flick. Some twists and turns, not giving anything away in case you want to watch it.

Today I watched 'Iron Sky'. Good lord what a fun movie! Really, Nazis start a moonbase after losing the war in 1945 and prepare to conquer Earth...

Okay, so I just got Premonition in the mail a few days ago (the Japanese horror flick) from Netlfix. My husband asked what it was and I could not remember. So, I went to watch the trailer on Youtube and then I was like WTF is this? I don't remember discovering this movie from surfing on Netflix or watching Youtube trailers, so I think someone must have rec'd it and I just threw it on my queue. I don't know if I'm being too judgmental by basing my opinion on the trailer, but the movie looks so...corny. If you seen this what are your thoughts before I waste time on a movie that's going to suck and disappoint (especially since it's my fave genre--horror)?

Into the Blue with Paul Walker. I've watched it before God knows how many times, I just really love the story, the adventure, the thrill of it. Plus all the underwater shots are so pretty.

Watched Django, Unchained. Not Tarantino's best.

Also watched Hysteria, a British film about vibrators.

Really. Not bad at all.

Me! You heard about it from me!

'tis NOT corny. 'tis very good! I've watched it more than once. Workaholic dad, lovely wife, adorable little girl. I scowled at the dad for like the first 10 minutes, then it was all OMG! and I was dragged along in his wake for the next hour and a half.

Can't really say more because of spoilers.

I'm on a bit of a horror streak at the moment.

Over Christmas, I watched Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday 13th.

Last weekend, I watched Child's Play.

Today, I'm watching the Scream trilogy.

I saw The Hobbit yesterday with by 13 y/o son. I'm a huge fan of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but wasn't as excited about seeing The Hobbit. It was great! Can't wait for the next one. Also have Silent House from Netflix on my desk - can't find time to watch it.

Saw "Lincoln" on Saturday.

Really, really great movie. I love it when I know the ending and I'm holding my breath with anticipation anyway.

Daniel Day Lewis is an actor without parallel.

Watched Alice last night--Czech filmmaker Jon Svankmajer's take on Alice in Wonderland. Holy hell, that was trippy. Very weirdly paced, all the "dialogue" is done in voice over from a little girl, as if she's narrating the book while the events in the film are unfolding, and it's this jarring, grotesque mashup of live action and stop action puppetry--mostly with animal skeletons, all set inside the dingiest building I've ever see outside of a torture porn movie. And then I realized, despite the use of unusual props and surreal special effects, it's also rigidly true to the original book--which somehow made it utterly terrifying.

Waaaaay judgmental. :D

It has a great central conceit, some fine FX, and at least three WTF moments which drive it past the bulk of the Haunted Item (haunted video cassette, haunted ring tone, haunted... whatever) films - stay with it, and it has a lot to offer. If you switch off before the big switch-ups (the first time there is an attempt to alter the future, then the consequences for doing so...) you'll miss a LOT.

Can't really say more because of spoilers.

I so want to give spoilers...

It's really, really, really good.

Everyone should watch it for the appearance of the previous guy. Which probably only makes sense if you have seen the film...

Gah! My dh put Premonition back in the mail thinking I wasn't going to watch it! Now I have to put it on my queue again. Sigh. Tonight we watched Haywire. It was pretty good. Good fight scenes and action. However, for some reason I had a really hard time understanding what people were saying. The audio for this movie or something sucked. Everyone talked garbled and or sounded like they were mumbling. I even had a hard time understanding Antonio Banderas and that has never happened. So, at the end of the movie, I was really confused about the why of everything that happened and had to go back to re-watching/re-listen to several scenes to figure out what the hell had happened. Other than that, it was a great espionage thriller.

Wreck-It Ralph. Before that, The Hobbit.

I saw Wreck-It Ralph. It was cute. The part where the oreos are marching in front of the king got me. It's quiet in the theatre, then they started marching and singing, "Oh we oh". I busted up. No one else did. Apparently, I was the only one in the place to get the joke of Wizard of Oz, and the fact it sounds like they're saying 'oreo'.

Heh, it's funny, but most in the admittedly smallish audience I was with (the adults, anyway) laughed aloud at that joke, and we don't typically eat oreos in this country.

But the harsh group sentence bestowed near the end is what really got everyone really laughing, me included.

The Guard - Irish comedy. Fell short of my expectations. Was told it had a similar style and wit to In Bruges but it paled in comparison. Leant to heavily on Irish stereotypes. 6.5/10

Premonition was quite good. It delivered the shocks and then some. Well worth a watch.

Treated myself to two old Kurosawa flicks, both birthday presents from my wife years back. Yojimbo and The Seven Samurai. Both are masterpieces. Yojimbo is actually quite funny in spots although I'm not sure if Kurosawa meant it to be that way. Knowing his attention to the smallest details, I figure he did know. Both flicks are long but well worth it.

I finally saw Brave with my daughter. I am not sure what I expected, but that wasn't it. But I loved it.

Cyborg, with Jean-Claude Van Damme. Badly edited, badly acted, badly written, and quite possibly a poster child for everything wrong with Cannon Films.

Suck it, Golan+Globus.

good thing i never watched those movies for the acting, editing, or writing ;)
