how'd you pick your username?

It's my natural nickname.

Mine is the main character of the novel I was drafting when I joined AW.

My real name is very unusual (I've never met or heard of anyone with my first name, and I'm fairly certain I'm the only one with my first and last name combination). Because I sometimes have to be all serious in my real life, and because I'm often extremely silly (and occasionally quite contentious) here on AW, I didn't want anyone to be able to easily google me and turn up all my AW stuff.

And besides, I rather share cray's paranoia about internetz people. Unlike cray, it's possible for someone to eventually convince me they're not going to boil bunnies on my stove. But I start with the assumption that all of youse are bunny boilers. Not, of course, that it wouldn't be a good thing if the bunny in question were qW.

cray -- you have to answer your own question! I've always wondered about your screen name.

fwiw, cray has something to do with my last name.
it's pretty remote but yeah.....that's how I picked mine.

I use my real name because I didn't come to AW to play a character. I came here because my writing was terrible and I needed to get better. I didn't want any illusions. I am me. I even use my own face for my profile a bunch. Part of that is for accountability. The other part is, let's face it, I'm hawt and could use a little lovin'.

I'm in general not playing a character either, unless I'm doing it overtly for fun. I'm often very silly in real life, and I love contentious conversations, too. My friends know that -- and they'd recognize my personality in the cabbie, P&CE, etc.

But my professional life is another thing. Many people do not like to imagine their lawyers (or doctors, or accountants, etc.) being goofy. And they might be concerned about the amount of time I spend on here if they didn't realize that I do the vast majority of my posts as pure stream of consciousness, that I also read extremely quickly, and that I'm a chronic insomniac who therefore has more hours in the day than most people. Since many people study for hours to type a sentence, they often don't realize that others of us can come up with a ridiculous rhyme as quickly as we can type it!

I work with idiots who are more interested in finding THC counts of various weed varieties and pictures of their friends naked online than cyber-stalking anybody. Plus, I get the added bonus of most of those folks being semi-illiterate.

My username is totally mysterious and stuff.

Also, the fact that I was able to get my first name as a username, with no numbers or initials, tells you how long ago I joined AW.

My train of thought went:

Haggis is of Scottish descent.

"haggis" is the quintessential Scottish food.

Granted, "Lagavulin" might have been more appropriate, but "Haggis" does have a certain ring to it.

Plus, when you think of somebody named "Haggis", you think of our undead chihuey mod.

I mean, what else would you call him?

Mine is the initialed name of the main character from the first novel length story I ever wrote. My reasons are similar to Cass -- keep the fun/writing life separate from the professional life for now.

I steer myself wrong all the time.

One time I accidentally walked into the women's locker room when I was in high school. Man, was I totally lost!

I always assumed haggis chose his username in a desperate attempt to get somebody to eat him.

Mine is a pronunciation guide. The 'Rob' part is silent.

I chose "Haggis" because "Parumpdragon" was taken.

My user name is a combination of some of the letters in my real name.

My username is a combination of some letters in swach's real name, as well.

...but the 'rob' is not as silent as we'd like it to be..
