Chris: Basement Stories hasn't been responding to subs, at least not consistently, for a while. I also know folks who were published by them but were never paid. Id be very reluctant to submit there, and consider pulling the current sub.

Oh wow, really? I hadn't heard that. I'll leave the story there while I work on it - because I know it needs work - and we'll see what happens in the mean time. Thanks for the heads up.

Okay, I sent one out for October. It's just flash, but then there are not many days left in this month. :)

Hmmm.

Just got Rd by Untied Shoelaces.

And it wasn't funny. They just said what they didn't like about it. (everything)

Ah well. I'm going to look at that one again before it goes back out.

*Sigh* I changed my mind.

I just closed my eyes and flung it back out into the wild. Now I don't have to think about it for a while.

Bum. :(

After like, 6 funny ones I actually got a positive one from him today! Said he liked it... but not enough. Although he did say something like "This one wasn't bad actually" as if to say, "unlike the other rubbish you send me."

Been crazy busy today - got a form from Orson Scott and Granta as well!

Oh, that's a shame :(
But at least you got further than me.

Mine said 'too much symbolism, not enough concrete events.'

And yes, it's 400 words of self indulgent wank, but it's pretty wank and I like it, so I'll give it a chance out there in the wild.

It's not like I'd ever get round to revising it. It would just sit on the computer and sulk.

I wouldn't take it badly, he definitely has... interesting taste. Check out his story on the site. Instructive as to where he is coming from.

Ah, that's an interesting story. I've read some of their stuff, but not that one.

Nothing like what I sent, but they do say they take different genres, not just fantasy.

Oh well, onward and upward.

Lol. I just got a lovely R, complete with lifestyle advice. :D

I really shouldn't advertise my bad habits on my bloggy thing...

Anyway, it made me smile and made my day.

Sorry about the R's, Lillie. :Hug2:

I've only sent two pieces to Untied Shoelaces -- both were rejected in a day. Neither one of them were funny. One blatantly stated they didn't like the piece, but didn't say why. The other was because my MC dies at then end, and then he went on to explain why the stories they've published with characters dying at the end 'work'.

Personally though, I don't find the stories they DO publish all that great, aside from John C. Wiswell; his stuff is hilarious.

I was advised to stop smoking :D

I think that must have come from my bloggy thing, because I go on about it on the 'About Me' page.
That was because when I was writing it I was looking for my lighter, and I was well irritated.

Okay, now I'm going to have to submit something there too. This is just too crazy to miss out on. :)

The strange ones come from Untied Shoelaces of the Mind.
But the nice one with the life style advice was from somewhere else :)

And I've just had another R. Plain form this time.
That's three Rs in 24 hours. :(
One of those days, or what?

Oh, well. If I have to get a rejection, I would prefer a strange one. LOL. :)

Sorry about all the R's. But, yes, definitely, sending a lot out is also how you get more A's. Or so I've heard...

Strange ones are good.

Anything is better than 'Thanks for sending it, but we are going to pass.'

That's just bleh. Not even a little bit of weirdness to brighten up the day.

Oh, come on!

I have to have some pleasures in my life, and a fag and a brew are top of the list.
I just wish I didn't keep losing my lighters.

Just got my R from Abyss & Apex. First time I've subbed there, and I can't tell if this is form or not;

[The story] was well received here, but after some thought we have decided not to accept it for publication.

I'm guessing it is. Either way, still a no.
