The BlueCat Screenwriting Workshops

The BlueCat Screenwriting Workshops

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

Gordy Hoffman, the Sundance award-winning writer/director (LOVE LIZA, A COAT OF SNOW) and founder of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition, is leading upcoming screenwriting workshops in LA, Pittsburgh, Honolulu, and San Francisco.

Winner of the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at the Sundance Film Festival for LOVE LIZA, Gordy Hoffman has taught screenwriting at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles, as well as led workshops all over North America, Poland, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. He has served as a panelist for the IFP Script to Screen Conference in NYC, Women in Film’s Script DC Conference in Washington, DC, and the George Eastman House Film Festival, as well as a judge for the McKnight Screenwriting Fellowships in Minnesota. Gordy Hoffman founded the BlueCat Screenplay Competition in 1998 and remains its judge. He’s currently developing a movie with Abigail Spencer.

THE FULL SCRIPT WORKSHOP (Limit 7 Writers)

Participants read seven screenplays in advance of the workshop. During the workshop, Gordy provides direct and in-depth feedback on each screenplay, with everyone encouraged to contribute his or her own thoughts and concerns.
Each writer will leave with a great sense of what they can do specifically to improve their screenplay, as well as a better awareness of where they might properly develop as a professional screenwriter as a whole.

Writers benefit from the direct focus placed on their screenplays by the workshop, along with the analysis of the six other scripts.

Screenplays can be first drafts or rewrites, incomplete or partial, with first time writers and veterans all welcome. Scripts are due 10-14 days prior to the date of the workshop.

Note: Screenplays submitted to the workshop are not eligible to be entered into the BlueCat Screenplay Competition.

Regular Registration Option:

Do you want to participate, but do not have a script to submit at this time? Regular registration for the workshop allows you to attend without submitting written material, read the scripts in advance and still participate in the discussion.

BlueCat Screenplay Competition: Feedback for all Entrants

As the 2015 BlueCat Screenplay Competition gains momentum, we’d like to touch on one of the ways our screenplay competition is unique.

BlueCat Screenplay Competition Offers Analysis to Every Script

BlueCat Screenplay Competition is the only screenplay competition that provides written analysis for every script submitted. We have professional readers who issue detailed notes with the goal of helping every entrant improve their screenplay. This process affords our entrants the option to rework, and then re-submit their scripts based on the feedback they receive. This is just one example of BlueCat’s main objective—to support and develop all screenwriters at every stage of the writing process.

For more information and examples of our script analysis here at BlueCat follow the link: http://www.bluecatscreenplay.com/script-analysis/

Other Worlds Austin SciFi Film Festival 2015 Screenwriting Contest Call For Entries!

As part of its ongoing mission to encourage work in Science Fiction, Other Worlds Austin announces its first SciFi Screenwriting Contest to reward creativity in its earliest stages and encourage writers to keep working in the genre. The contest will run alongside the film component of the festival and will be sponsored by No BullScript Consulting. In addition to feature scripts, OWA will also include a category for shorts and three teleplay categories: pilots, specs, and retro-specs.

The top feature and teleplay will win cash prizes of $500 and the best short will win $250. The best feature, teleplay, and short will also receive a Development Notes Phone Consultation with Danny Manus of No BullScript Consulting, a top 15 script consultant according to Creative Screenwriting.

To submit a screenplay to Other Worlds Austin, writers can go to OtherWorldsAustin.com/screenplays. They’ll find submission guidelines, rules, and a helpful FAQ.

Early Bird Discount Deadline: June 15, 2015
Features/Teleplays: $40 Shorts: $30

Unlike many such competitions, the Other Worlds Austin SciFi Screenwriting Competition Contest is not interested in the feasibility of production, but is instead simply a celebration of writing skill. In addition to prizes for the winners, written feedback will be provided to every entrant of the competition.
