My debut novel, (which came out in June), was shipped around at the various international book fairs in April/May. I was told at the time there was interest, but have heard nothing since.

I know realistically it is very unlikely an international publishing house will choose to pick up my book, but I am curious how this kind of thing works, particularly from authors who've been through the process. Do international publishers generally wait to see how a novel has performed in it's own country before taking it on? Has anyone here had their work picked up by an international publisher, and what did the experience look like?

Who shopped your book around for you? Was it your agent? Your current publisher?

Why not ask them for an update?

In my experience agents and publishers are all keen to exploit all rights to the books they work with. Foreign and subsidiary rights sales are often not as lucrative individually as the initial contract, but when a book is sold into several new territories they can be very lucrative indeed.
