Wahoo! Thanks for all the wise counsel, guys, I am grateful. Cbenoi and Kallithrix, I think you've nailed it. My character must indeed try doing things the old way, banging her head against the same old wall, until a reflecting scene later on when she 'gets' it, and tries something new.

If you read plenty of published novels, you will see where show is used for introspective scenes. The only way to find out is to write it. And, the only way to see what introspective scenes look like in a thriller are to read thrillers that have introspective scenes. As I said earlier, I just read one.

Huh? I wasn't saying you don't read, but that there are plenty of novels out there with introspective scenes that do work. ;) As writers, good published stories are our education.

I'm also trying to advocate that any subject matter is game for writing an introspective scene, it all depends on how well it's executed.
