I once wrote a short story that, among other things, involved a main character with no father figure in his life journeying through a tunnel, being confronted by a bright light upon exiting, and discovering that the city he'd struggled to reach has been abandoned. The whole thing seemed to be a metaphor for a lack of God or an afterlife, except I'd had no intention whatsoever to write that!
