SSN On Contract?

I just got a contract for a short story which asks for my Social Security Number. Is that normal?

Generally, yes. If you'll receive some sort of cash payment, they'll need your SS# to report it to the IRS and issue you a 1099 statement at the end of the year.

Yes. In the US, it's completely legitimate for anyone who's paying you to ask for your SSN.

(My policy is to give out my SSN if and only if someone is paying me. :D)
