There are two new bands who have appeared on the Letterman show recently that I'm really digging. The Orwells's performance was crazy. The lead singer, a dreamy-eyed, stoned, male blonde in a black leather jacket sings half the song before falling onto the floor with hips gyrating in some sex fantasy, only to get up and stumble into one of the chairs reserved for guests. It's crazy and I LOVE IT. The lead guitarist, in stonewash denim, rips the strings from his guitar and bloodies his hands. Song ends. But then David comes out and and yells for 'more more' which they can't do because the strings are broken, and so Paul Shaffer and his band pick up the song and then HE comes out and gyrates on the floor. In the meantime you can see The Orwells are freaking out; the lead guitarist is pissed, it's like a Fellini movie. I've watched it so many times it's insane. Here's the clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvodeJdwKb8

And then Future Island played recently. The lead singer looks like Marlon Brando, dances around in a strange box pattern, and swings a hard fist into the air every once in a while which is just so unnerving, but I love his unique voice and the whole song is lovely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ee4bfu_t3c
