So I'm having a really hard time finding out how to insert footnotes for each chapter in Scrivener. I feel like the answer is probably right in front of my face, but I can't seem to find it.

You might want to mention which version of Scrivener you have.

I'm not all that familiar with Scrivener, but I had it at one time. You can add a Footnote icon from the View menu in the top menu. And there is a little icon somewhere on the top. I've forgotten where.

Okay, so I found where it says "Show footer view," but when that's on all I can see is the word count for this particular segment. How can I type in a footer for the chapter? I see no way to expand it.

I'm guessing somewhat.

You want to use the Footnote icon, then type in your note (either in line or using the footnote panel). When you compile it (to Word or whatever), the footnote will be at the bottom of the page.

Something like that anyway.
