I've been playing an unhealthy amount of Masters of Orion 3. It gets a bad rep from most Masters of Orion 2 fans, and deservedly so. I mean, its completely different. In some ways, its much worse than MOO2. But in other ways, its much better.

Its also addictive as sin.

My forces are slowly pounding their way through the Silicon Empire. Each month, we bomb another planet. So far, we've killed about 50 billion Silicons...and their Emperor continues to refuse our demands for surrender.

Ah well.

Last game I played was Unreal: Return to Na Pali, I was so happy when I found out it worked on my laptop (which doesn't have a video card :p) and it plays better than my other computer! (seriously whats with that?)

Very nice!

After bombing another planet into dust, I moved on to play Prototype. Its actually really fun, and I actually rather like the way the plotline is conveyed entirely through a web of snippets that you have to piece together.

Also, shapeshifting is *always* fun.

Excitebots Trick Racing.

boring race game with some gimmicky mini-games on the track.

I'm still playing the Middle Earth Mod to Medieval Total War II Kingdoms.

Oops! Wargs:

Spamwise Hamgee spent a good portion of last night working on improving the quality of his legendary sword, "The Edge." I also escorted a friend from the Great Delving to the Redhorn Lodes, as he was in need of precious metals and ores.

My corward push has resulted in the capitulation of the Silicon Empire to my demands of unconditional surrender.

Pay up, crystalline biznitches!

For a game as fugly and hard to understand as MOO3, its surprisingly addictive....

Last game I played was Gears of War. Not a great title, but fun for what it is. I hear the second is much better.

Ok now that i got that out of my system. OH MY GOD! Back in 2000, I got cracked on MoO2 for almost 6 straight months man. I could beet the game on IMPOSSIBLE! when i discovered that they released MoO3, I almost pissed my pants. Went out and bought the game without reading ONE online review of it.

Popped it in, turned it on.... and I had real tears in my eyes after I played it for a day or two... I mean, what Where They Thinking when they designed the game... Did they Bother to play the thing? I keep a copy of MoO2 on my computer just for nostalgia purposes, and to this day, MoO3 just pisses me off so bad that they did that to the series. I found the game almost completely unplayable, and I've played some crappy games in my day!

Anyway, not to down on you personally, I just have fairly strong, (perhaps requiring professional help lol) feelings about that series of game.

To answer the thread topic question. I have gotten away from online games almost completely, though i WILL play fallen-earth when they eventually finish it. I've been playing Warhammer 40k DaW2 and sins of a solar empire when i just want to vegetate my brain matter and go click click click for an hour..

I'm a HUGE fan of the fall out series and I'd love to write a movie adaptation of the game one day. Have to get Mel Gibson to play the Main Character's father though! Road Warrior baby!

I'm keeping an eye out for a few games due out in the next year or two, but i'm too lazy atm to look up their titles.... I need to do some troubleshooting on my computer... get a new CPU cooler or a new power supply, my computer randomly shuts down under heavy load so I've been keeping the game play to a minimal and just working on my book now that I've discovered rules to help me with the crafting of my art. :)

me and the wife almost bought an Xbox just for GoW2. We borrowed a system from a friend and beet the game in a couple days. That was some good fun. My wife loves FPSs, and it really irks the crap out of her when I score higher than her almost always and have Less kills... Head Shots Pow, ching, Pow, ching!

Hey, I think you should try MOO3. Get the fan patches, and go in with different expectations. Its not MOO2. Its nothing LIKE MOO2. Once you get used to it, though, its really entertaining.

Did you play MOO1? Because "that they did that to the series" is pretty inaccurate. MOO3 is a lot more similar to MOO1 than to MOO2. Heck, it's closer to MOO1 than than MOO2 was. I agree that there were a lot of bad things about MOO3, mostly caused by the publisher rushing the game to gold status when it would've still needed about half a year of debugging. But with the fan mods & bugfixes it's simply awesome now.
The fact that it's not a Civ-Style Micromanagment hell, and more of a space empire game was a design decision, and a very good one imo. It's what the MOO series started out as, the people who expected MOO2.5 mostly didn't play MOO1.

Let me hug you dude! Far too few people appreciate the gem that MOO3 truly is. Best 4X space game ever. Well, i hope not ever, but definitly so far, with no replacement in sight.
(GalCiv? Puh-leeze. That game's got all the strategic and tactical depth of a Sahara puddle)

Well, complicated is a negative word. ;)
But seriously, the combat system alone is a joke. You have three different types of weapons and armor, and then the whole thing is based on a vague rock scissors stone principle, and comparing a single number for offense with a single number for defense? That's not even simple, that's bullshit. At least 90% of the fun (and strategic depth) of 4X space games like MOO or Imperium Galactica comes from designing ships that can beat your opponent effectively (Which is actually the one thing MOO3 and MOO3 had in common). I mean, there is such a thing as too simple. I know dumbification to appeal to an as broad as possible audience is the current trend in gaming, but i do not applaud it. There are more calculations going into a single MOO3 ship shooting another ship once, than go into a whole battle in GalCiv 2. It looks quite nice, the Space Station are actually a pretty cool idea, and the AI is amazingly good. But the game as a whole? I played it for about 15 hours. It kind of felt like spore. You get promised a game with unprecendented scope, the possibility for limitless depth, and modern graphics. And when you try it out, you see it's really a mildly amusing 3D editor and a few arcade games to use your create in, the likes of which i've played on the friggin' Commodore 64 over a decade ago. Before i descent into full rant-mode, this sums up my opinion of the the current gaming industry pretty much. :D

But not to be only negative, there is always a light at then end of the tunnel, and it's not always a trian.
If you like strategy games with strategic depth, check out Dominions 3. Do it. Go ahead and download the demo right now. That game is made of sheer awesome, which is even more amazing since it was made completely by two finnish dudes in their spare time. I'll point out it has a rather steep learning curve, especially if you just jump in without some directions, but it's the only strategy game i've seen so far that inspired people to roleplay in the forumthreads for multiplayer games, or write page-long after action reports.

I reinstalled Far Cry 2 to test out the speaker issues that have made playing a lot of game more annoying than it should be and I've found that it has about 20 more FPS than it used to.

Still a very good free form game. Kinda unfocused, though

Oh something which occurred to me just now:
MOO2 fans who disliked the way MOO3 went should definitly check out Space Empires 5. Pretty similar to MOO2, except with more ... stuff. Definitly a worthy MOO2.5 :D
Just don't try to play it without the newest patch. With the patch it works perfectly fine, the out of box version is more like a beta.

Last game i played before posting was Diablo 2 ladder. Again... Just can't break the habit.

More prototype goodness.

Now that I've fixed my speaker issues, most of my games run at least 20 FPS faster. It rocks my socks.

I've been playing Prototype all day. Its got a lot of appeal in the "brain dump" kind of way. visceral and fast paced! Its got a lot of GTA feel to it.. very good game imho....

I need a bigger power supply for my PC because I have to under clock my GTX280 in order to keep the computer from randomly shutting off :(

Still pulling 50+ FPS with No lag on the game though :) GTX280 FTW
